“Elena, sitting here with you two, I don’t envy anyone anymore,” Lauren said. “Back then, I was so jealous watching Rhea surrounded by so many friends.”

Elena looked up.

Sharon chimed in, “You probably don’t know about this, Elena, but Rhea and her friends ganged up on Lauren. They forced drinks on her in public and even had their bodyguards bully us. I’ll never understand how a family like that could raise a daughter like Rhea.”

“And that’s not all,” Lauren added as she placed food onto Elena’s plate. “When I crossed paths with Rhea, I mentioned that I have some close friends too. But the moment I told her your name, she sneered. I was so angry.”

Smiling, Elena propped her chin on one hand. “She doesn’t know me.”

Lauren said quickly, “Maybe not, but that kind of attitude was still so disrespectful.”

Sharon backed her up. “Rhea acts like she’s untouchable and that no one else matters.”

Elena found their chatter grating, yet she couldn’t stop the two women from badmouthing Rhea. So she fiddled with her phone and sent Nathan another request.

This time, she added a message.

“I’m Elena Austin. We ran into each other outside the restroom yesterday. I’m sitting with two women who won’t stop badmouthing your sister now.”

Lauren went on, “But Elena, don’t take it to heart. Rhea grew up spoiled, so she’s always a bit arrogant. She doesn’t mean any harm. She’s just willful. Otherwise, she and Carter wouldn’t be at odds like this.”

Just then, Elena’s phone buzzed with an Instagram notification. She checked it and saw that Nathan had accepted her follow request.

She broke into a grin at once. Her fingers flew as she shot out messages on Instagram.

Seeing that she was busy, Lauren couldn’t keep talking. “Go ahead and do your thing, Elena. Don’t worry about us.”

Elena arched a brow.
