Carter glanced at Lauren before saying, “Come in.”
The door to the ward opened.

A well–dressed couple stepped in first, followed by several men who appeared to be bodyguards carrying expensive–looking gifts.
“Excuse me. Which of you are Adrian’s parents?” the man asked.
“I am,” Carter replied. “And you are?”
“Hi, I’m Jasper Melton. I’m so sorry, Mr. Jamison. My son was reckless and hurt your son. We’re really sorry. We’ve come to apologize in person,” the man said.
Jasper’s wife added, “Rest assured. We’ll cover Adrian’s medical expenses and all related damages.”
Upon hearing that, Lauren immediately stood, her face lit with a triumphant smile.
She couldn’t believe that Holly had really arranged this so quickly.
She couldn’t help shooting Peter a look.
Peter’s expression looked strange.
Meanwhile, Jasper barked at the big, tall kid behind him. “Oscar! Go apologize to Adrian now!”
Oscar Melton walked over, lowering his gaze as he spoke to Adrian, who was lying on the bed. “I’m sorry, Adrian. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have said those things or pushed you.”
The sudden apology left Carter momentarily stunned. He couldn’t believe that Lauren’s connection
had actually worked out.
Snapping back to himself, Carter said, “I understand that kids will shove each other sometimes. But this went too far. We don’t need compensation, but at least show some accountability.”
“You’re right. It’s our fault for coming too late. I spent the whole day at home scolding Oscar before bringing him here to apologize to you and your son.”
Jasper had a way of phrasing things just right. It wasn’t that they weren’t going to come; they had just been busy disciplining Oscar.
Lauren folded her arms, radiating the authority of a birth mother. “Be careful next time. My son got lucky this time. Who knows what might happen next time?”
Jared and his wife glanced at Lauren and merely smiled, offering no reply.

“We’ll settle the medical fees now,” they said, then hurried out.
Carter looked at Lauren. “You really pulled this off so fast?”
Lauren smiled. “Holly has a wide network. A small favor like this was easy. Our kid got hurt, after all. They owe us an apology.”
Carter finally felt some relief. “Thank you.”
Lauren’s eyes softened. “I told you, they’re my children. They came from my womb. I may not yet know perfectly how to be a mother, but my love for them is constant.‘
Carter couldn’t resist. He gently squeezed her hand. “I spoke too harshly earlier. I’m sorry.‘
