George knew that Rhea saying that she had something to show him was just an excuse.

George was the first to speak. “What’s wrong?”

Rhea turned to him, then suddenly asked, “Do you have feelings for me?”

She had avoided him for weeks, replaying that day in her mind. She was afraid that she had misunderstood, but his every action kept proving otherwise.

George showed no hint of awkwardness at having his feelings exposed. He leaned casually against the balcony door, with one hand in his pocket. A few snowflakes clung to his shirt.

A faint smile curved his lips. “It took you this long to figure it out?”

Naturally, he knew that Rhea had been avoiding him lately.

He had thought that she was turning him down in her own way, but it turned out that she just wasn’t

sure.

Rhea felt as though she had downed a shot of whiskey. Her chest burned with heat, and so did her

head.

She couldn’t believe that George had feelings for her. Why? Since when?

He was never one to hide things, and he had hidden this for long enough. He explained, “I’ve been waiting for you to get divorced. I’m just about out of patience.”

Rhea stared at George in silence. After a moment, she suddenly stepped closer.

George lowered his gaze. Their noses were almost touching.

He hadn’t even gotten the chance to fight for her.

Rhea’s marriage had been far too sudden. No one had seen it coming.

Rhea’s heartbeat quickened, not because of George’s feelings for her, but because she was surprised to realize that someone other than her family had been silently watching her life.

She stepped back.

George caught her arm. His eyes were so intent that they rattled her. “Now that it’s out in the open, I’m done hiding. I’ll wait until your divorce is finalized.”

Wait until her divorce was finalized? What was he planning to do after that?

He made no move to cross the line. After saying that, he released her arm and glanced at her. “Let’s head back inside. It’s cold out here. You’re underdressed.”
