Chapter 409
Lauren had no idea how she left the Pearson residence. All she knew was that she felt dizzy and disoriented, as if she were floating.
She gripped the small bag of candies tightly in her purse. Arielle and Adrian were at the hospital, being treated with medication and showing improvement.
Rhea’s bodyguards were stationed there. She visited occasionally, but was always accompanied. She was never alone with the children.
With that, Lauren wondered how she could seize the opportunity to frame Rhea.
The kids were old enough now. What if she fed them the candies and they told someone about it?
Lauren felt a clawing anxiety. In her twisted mind, she thought that it would be better if those two ingrates were mute or simple–minded. Then, she wouldn’t have to rack her brain scheming.
Other people’s kids clung to their mothers, but not these two!
The more she thought about it, the more she felt Kate’s desire to get rid of them was justified. So what if they were her flesh and blood? They were useless to her. She didn’t see the point in keeping
them around.
They only caused her trouble!
The next day, just past 3:00 pm, members of the Jamison family arrived at the children’s hospital to
visit Arielle and Adrian.
Tyler asked, “How did things get so serious? What happened?”
Carter hadn’t contacted Tyler and his family since arriving in Draventh. Too many things had happened, and he hadn’t had the time. Besides, they weren’t that close.
Mia glanced at the kids and whispered, “Carter, was it Rhea who did this? The kids were fine before, but she just had to stir up trouble and drive Lauren away. Then, this happened. If she’s not a jinx, then what is she?”
Carter swept an icy gaze over her, startling her into silence. She shrank back, hunching her shoulders. Then, she slouched into the couch and discreetly texted Lauren. “Lauren, Rhea isn’t here.”
Yesterday afternoon, Lauren had called Mia, sobbing about how she couldn’t visit the kids and was worried sick. She had begged Mia to check on them for her.
Mia had always hoped that Carter would get back with Lauren, and she despised Rhea.

She and her family were oblivious to the recent events in Draventh. To them, Rhea was still just a woman from a small, remote city who got lucky and latched onto Carter.
Leah said, “Carter, don’t get upset at Mia for telling the truth. Rhea’s just a pretty face. She’s just a stepmother, yet she gets upset over the most minor things and demands a divorce. Is that the attitude of someone who wants to make things work?
“Our family is a big deal. She’s lucky to have married you and joined our family, yet she’s going around stirring up trouble. Divorcing her was the right call.”
