Annie’s eyelashes fluttered. Her mouth felt dry, her heart raced, and her cheeks flushed.
After all, who could resist praise from their current boss? Rhea was so sincere, sharing every thought straight from her mind.
Annie cleared her throat. “I…”
“By the
way, I heard you’ve been handling your son’s school transfer. Is that right?” Rhea asked.
Since Annie had come to Dalea with the company, her son was still abroad, and her husband, Kevin Mendez, needed medication year–round to stay healthy. She was the only one in the family working.
Even though she earned a decent salary, money always felt a little tight.
“Yes,” Annie admitted. “I won’t be heading back anytime soon. My husband and son are still
overseas.
She was worried about them.
Smiling, Rhea rested her chin in her hand and said, “Lucky for you, this idle heiress has some connections. You focus on this project, and I’ll handle getting your son transferred to Draventh. How does that sound?”
It was such a tempting offer!
Annie felt that Rhea must have some ulterior motives. Her heart skipped a beat, and she clenched her jaw.
Despite knowing Rhea was trying to win her over, Annie couldn’t ignore such a tempting deal.
She tightened her grip on the project proposal. “What else do you want me to do?”
Rhea leaned against her swivel chair and smiled casually. “I’ve never suffered much, and I’m quick- tempered and impulsive. I want to ensure that the company’s culture remains healthy while I’m here. That means no gossip or drama. You’ve been with the company for years, Ms. Levy. I trust you.”
Annie wasn’t a fresh college graduate, so she understood perfectly well what that meant.
That was it? Was it really that simple?
Even after she left Rhea’s office with the project proposal in hand, her head was spinning. She could hardly believe such a golden opportunity had landed in her lap.
Pulling herself together, Annie sent Kevin a message. Although he no longer worked, he still had
connections.

Chapter 462
“Help me look into someone.” She wrote. She wanted to know more about Rhea.
A knock at the door came.
“Come in.”

Paula Farley, one of her team members, slipped inside and leaned toward Annie’s desk. “Ms. Levy, the new translator, Kate, said that she’s inviting us out tomorrow. Are you going?”
Annie asked, “There are many people in the company. Can she even afford it?”
“No,” Paula said. “She only invited you, me, and the translation team.‘
It seemed that the other team leaders weren’t included.
Annie frowned, unsure of what that meant.
She thought Kate should either invite all of them or none at all. Otherwise, the translation team could have dinner on their own.
Why was she singling Annie out like this? If the other leaders found out, they would gossip behind
her back.
She didn’t respond right away. “Get back to work first.”
“Okay.”
Paula left the office.
In the hallway, Kate’s cheerful voice called out, “Ms. Farley.”
