Back at her desk, Heidi looked at Lauren. “Are you sure you want to work here?”

Lauren’s answer was unwavering. “Absolutely.”

Heidi didn’t bother sugarcoating her words. “There are numerous other companies out there. Why must you choose here?”

“I want to crush that bitch!” Lauren said bluntly. She wanted to make Kate pack up and leave in

humiliation.

Heidi was speechless for a moment. “…I see. That’s quite ambitious of you.”

Lauren tilted her head, confused.

Heidi instructed, “Translate this document by yourself. Don’t ask anyone for help. Show it to me when you’re done.”

“Okay.”

Although Lauren lacked formal work experience, she had spent time learning the ropes at her parents‘ company during her childhood.

Her spoken Albish skills were excellent. It was a fact even Carter had admired.

She threw herself into the task, ignoring the stares of colleagues around her. By noon, she had finished translating the document and handed it to Heidi.

During lunch, Lauren went to the cafeteria and ran into Rhea, who was heading there at the same

time.

As everyone entered the elevator, they greeted her, “Ms. Ravelle.”

Rhea nodded while checking her phone. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught Lauren’s gaze.

She thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

Lauren smiled. “Ms. Ravelle, you cat in the cafeteria too?”

Rhea glanced at Lauren’s work ID.

She then looked away. “If I don’t, are you going to buy my food?”

Lauren pursed her lips, saying nothing.

In the cafeteria, Kate and Gisselle strolled arm in arm, chatting and laughing as if they were the best

of friends.

When Lauren saw that, her eyes sparked with fury.

Kate had just poured herself a glass of milk and was about to turn when the entire glass spilled over her black fitted dress, drawing everyone’s eyes instantly.

Frowning, Gisselle yelled, “What are you doing?”

Lauren replied calmly, “How was I supposed to know she was behind me? Ms. Pearson didn’t even watch when turning. This isn’t your home, Ms. Pearson. You should be careful.”

“You!” Gisselle fumed. “You bumped into Kate, and now you’re blaming her? Do you want to lose your job?”

Lauren pouted. “Sorry, Ms. Pearson. My bad for not watching my back—”

Before she could finish speaking, someone tugged at her arm. She turned to see Heidi standing there. Her innocent–looking face betrayed no emotion.

She said to Lauren, “Lunch break isn’t long. What are you wasting time here for? Go eat.”

Lauren rolled her eyes and walked away.

“Heidi, you’re condoning this? She bumped into Kate and didn’t even apologize, then tried to twist it around!”

“She did?” Heidi blinked. “I didn’t see it.

She then walked off with her tray in hand.

Gisselle’s blood boiled. She stepped forward, ready to confront them, but after a few strides, she froze in place. She clenched her teeth and shot a furious glare at the two women.

Meanwhile, Rhea, who had been quietly eating, was startled when she saw Heidi and Lauren suddenly take the seats across from her.

With a practiced smile, Lauren slid a glass of milk toward her. “It’s freshly poured. It’s still warm. For you, Ms. Ravelle.”

Rhea’s cool gaze flicked over the glass, but she didn’t react.

Lauren noticed. “…I didn’t poison it. Don’t worry.”
