I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 503

Lauren’s sudden outburst startled even Damian, who nearly spilled his water. She slammed her notebook down. “Can’t you ask your boyfriend in private how long he and Mr. Frost have known each other? What’s it to you what industry Mr. Snider’s getting into?

“Are you trying to make sure everyone knows that you’re obsessed with someone else’s fiance? And booking restaurants? That’s an assistant’s job! If you’ve got the energy to snoop around and be pathetic, you might as well use it on translating this whole investment book!”

Her tirade drew even George’s gaze to her.

Kate’s expression was an interesting mix of embarrassment and anger. “What… What are you talking about? I’m not obsessed with Ms. Ravelle’s fiance. I was just being polite since we all grew up together. You’ve got it all wrong, Lauren.”

“I’ve got it wrong, my…” Lauren didn’t finish her sentence, but she wanted to say “ass“. Her eyes bulged with fury as she glared at Kate.

Damian said amicably, “Alright, alright. It’s getting late. Care to join me for dinner, Ms. Ravelle? You, too, Mr. Snider.”

Rhea glanced at George. He nodded and said, “We’d be honored, Mr. Frost.”

“There’s no need to be so polite,” Damian said.

Kate stood and asked, “Shall I book the restaurant, then?”

Damian nodded. “That would be great, if it’s not too much trouble for you.”

“Not at all. It’s the least I can do.”

Lauren shoved her notebook into her bag in a huff. “What you should be doing is your actual job, not popping up every two seconds to be a pain!”

Kate flat–out ignored her and followed Damian out of the room. “Mr. Frost.”

Kate’s smile stiffened slightly, but she pressed on. “Thanks, Mr. Frost. So please, don’t let him know about the drama with my colleagues or how I’m getting yelled at every day. It’skind of embarrassing to admit. Anyway, it’s just girl stuff. I don’t want this messing with his work or mood.”
