Lauren couldn't believe that Mia had actually thought that she could stay in Draventh. She didn't think even a janitor's job would take in an idiot like her.
Angie, who had run out, texted Kate and invited her to dinner.
Kate agreed to tomorrow evening.
At that moment, she was busy cooking in the kitchen.
She was in one of Sawyer's apartments, right in the heart of Draventh's busiest district. The unit spanned over 6,500 square feet and offered stunning views. Standing by the window, one could almost look down on the entire city of Draventh.
Kate had her hair tied back and an apron on as she chopped the ingredients. Sawyer, now out of his suit, was helping her prepare dinner.
Kate couldn't help sneaking a glance at him.
His profile was sharp, and he habitually frowned when he was focused. He looked especially captivating.
Noticing her gaze, Sawyer looked up, and Kate quickly lowered her eyes.
A small curve tugged at his lips. "You can look if you want."
Kate had never been overly expressive. Even after falling out with Rhea, she had acted boldly in her decisions.
But when it came to matters of the heart, she had no experience.
So when she heard Sawyer's words, her heartbeat quickened, and a faint blush crept up her ears.
"I really like cooking quietly like this. It feels peaceful," Kate said.
Sawyer looked at her. "I'll cook with you whenever I'm free. If you don't feel like cooking, we can eat out or have a chef come here."
Kate pressed her lips together and smiled. "Sounds great."
As the aroma of dinner filled the air, the tension and restless turmoil inside her slowly began to settle.
She had once wondered whether Rhea and George might cook together, eat together, and then watch movies and chat afterward.
But all the jealousy those fantasies had stirred was quieted by every move Sawyer made.
He rinsed his hands and said softly, "I need to take this call. Stay away from the stove, okay?"
Kate's cheeks flushed. "Okay."
Sawyer stepped away to answer his phone. "Yes, Dr. Morrow?"
"Mr. Burton, Ms. Burton was in bad shape. She cried for a while and hurt her hand," Madison reported everything about Sylvia in detail. It had been her habit for years.
