Sawyer understood what Kate meant.
This time, his smile ran deeper than usual, and for a moment, Kate completely lost herself in it.
His smile was bright and refreshing, like the first light of an autumn morning filtering through the forest. It carried a crisp sense of hope.
Sawyer slowly let his smile fade. "I'll follow your lead. Just tell me what you want, and I'll handle it."
He would follow her lead…
His words reminded Kate of George completely doting on Rhea in the seat ahead of her on the flight home.
And now, she had someone who accepted and indulged her, too.
Maybe it was the wine earlier, but Kate felt her cheeks warm. "How about this month for the engagement? I heard you on the phone in the car. You'll be traveling frequently from the end of the month, right?"
Since the car was quiet, Kate caught snippets of Sawyer's phone conversation. She heard that it was something about a drug study, which needed to be sped up next month.
Sawyer was going to be busy.
Kate didn't want any complications, and she certainly didn't want to lose someone so wonderful. That was why she was in a bit of a hurry.
Sawyer nodded. "Sure. I'll have someone pick a suitable day. I'll handle the engagement stuff. If you need anything, just make a list and give it to Vivian to take care of it for you. If you don't want to deal with any of it, just leave it all to me."
His gentleness and care were impossible for Kate to resist. She couldn't just hand everything off and feel at peace.
"I'll take care of decorating the venue myself. Since we're pressed for time, we'll need to send invitations by the end of the month. Will you handle your side?"
"Yeah," Sawyer replied. "I don't have parents. Only an older sister, but her health is poor. She can't make it. The rest of my guests would just be some friends from work."
Kate asked about his personal life for the first time. "Don't you have any close friends outside of work?"
