Chapter 1
At eight months pregnant, I went alone to Ravenshire Medical Pavilion–the hospital I privately owned–for a prenatal checkup.
The moment my name was called, a woman shoved me hard from behind.
“Out of my way, mutt. Who the hell do you think you are, cutting in front of me?”
I pulled out my appointment slip and tried to explain, but she slapped me–again and again.
“Do you even know who’s standing in front of you? That’s Mrs. Whitlock–the wife of Ravenshire’s wealthiest man. You’re nothing but broke trash. Who gave you the nerve to stand in her way?”
Even the attending doctor sneered as he stood to the side.
“This entire hospital belongs to the Whitlock family. If Mrs. Whitlock wanted to crush you like a bug, it’d take nothing more than a blink.”
My fists clenched tightly at my sides.
If memory served, the so–called richest man in Ravenshire was none other than the husband who had married up into my fortune.
Before I could even call Aiden Whitlock to confront him, the woman whipped out her phone and dialed.
“Babe, some shameless tramp tried to cut the line in front of me and the baby. Come deal with her.”
“Who the hell has a death wish daring to mess with my wife?! I’m coming right now. Sit tight, baby.”
Aiden’s voice came through the phone, cold and decisive–and my heart sank with it.
Originally, I had come to get a checkup and quietly inspect hospital operations.
I hadn’t expected to uncover Aiden’s affair instead.
The woman hung up and turned to me smugly, chin raised like a queen addressing a servant.
“In Ravenshire, no one cuts in front of me. Apologize now, or I’ll make sure you disappear from this city by tomorrow.”
The doctor, who should’ve been treating patients, stood behind her with equal contempt.
“Do yourself a favor and apologize to Ms. Sterling. Everyone knows Mr. Whitlock worships her–crossing her will ruin you.”
I stared coldly at the woman in front of me.
Her belly had a small but visible swell–maybe four or five months along.
She carried a limited–edition Bellamore handbag and wore a six–carat diamond choker I recognized instantly,
No wonder things had been disappearing from my dressing room lately.
I had suspected a thief.
Turns out, it was a snake in my own house.
Without hesitation, I texted my assistant:
[Freeze all of Aiden’s cards. Revoke his VP tifle immediately. I
Just as the message sent, Vanessa lunged forward and grabbed my phone, hurling it to the ground with a crack
“I’m talking to you. Are you deat? I told you to apologize!”
I looked down at my shattered phone, my face darkening.

“What if I don’t?”
Before the words even finished, a loud slap rang out across my cheek.
“That wasn’t a request. It was a warning.”
“You show up here pregnant and alone–what, your husband abandoned you already? Try cutting in line again, and when mine gets here, you won’t stand a chance.”
My cheek burned, but I met her gaze coldly.
“When your husband shows up, he’ll learn exactly who’s untouchable here.”
Vanessa’s face twisted in rage. She lunged again, yanking my hair with brutal force.
