The low voice’s man barked, his tone full of irritation at how foolish that burly man was.

Tess curled up on the ground, gasping for air.

Her vision darkened, but she still felt two hostile stares pressing on her.

“If Steven has any conscience,” The low voice man said with a cruel smile, waving the photo in his hand, “when he sees you like this, do you think he’ll keep fighting in court–or walk away?”

“Send it to Steven,” he ordered coldly.

The burly man turned to leave but was stopped. “Has the contact she arranged shown up yet?”

Tess shook with fear, but her mind raced, locking onto every word.

The other man peered outside and said, “Looks like she’s here.”

“Good. Bring her in. We’ll make sure she gets a proper recording.”

The two men exchanged grins that made people’s skin crawl.

Tess’s chest tightened. She knew something bad was coming.

Tess felt like her bones were coming apart. Every place the whip landed burned and tore at her skin; her wound turned into a mess.

Veins stood out on her forehead, and sweat poured down from her body.

“Bring a bucket of water! Add plenty of salt!” the woman barked.

Footsteps hurried away at her command.

A moment later, Tess heard something heavy drop on the ground.
