Tess didn’t immediately get a cab like she said she would. Instead, she looked down and said quietly, “Mr. Lock, how much longer are you going to watch?”

After she spoke, everything was quiet, and even Tess thought she was mistaken.

At last, the sound of heavy leather shoes came closer.

The man’s deep voice sounded right by her ear.

Tess’s lips curved into a smile, but her eyes stayed cold.

“Mr. Lock, aren’t you afraid that if you don’t stay in the ward with Nadine, she might pass away from a lack of blood?”

Her tone dripped with mockery. Her smile was sharp.

Finn frowned. “Tess, why are you talking like this?”

Tess sneered, not planning to argue with Finn anymore.

But Finn quickly followed after her. “Don’t blame me. I didn’t know it was you who gave Nadine the blood.

“If I had known it was you, I—”

“So what? Now you know.”

Tess shrugged, interrupting him with a look of indifference.

She didn’t care about what Finn thought anymore.

“Mr. Lock, you should go back. We need to start working on our divorce.”

Tess put down her brush and looked through the peephole. She saw Connor, whom she had just seen a little while ago.

A bit surprised, she opened the door. “Mr. Hale, what brings you here?”

Connor also seemed to think he was being rude, so he nodded to her to apologize.

Tess was surprised, thinking all people from his country were so polite, and quickly waved her hand. “Is Cavrielle in such a rush?”

Connor froze for a second, then realized Tess had misunderstood his visit.

Still, he didn’t explain. Instead, he smiled lightly. “Maybe the higher–ups want to take advantage of all the media attention.”

Tess nodded at that and led Connor over to see her sketches.
