Chapter 424 Visiting the Hospital
She gave a little wink and pointed at the bills in her pocket.
“Keep it. If we come back with more questions, I hope you’ll tell us.”
“Of course, of course!” the woman said, patting her chest.
Lyra smiled and grabbed Tess’s hand to leave.
“So Nicholas and his whole family moved out, and only one kid stayed behind?”
They turned the corner, and with no one around, Lyra finally squinted, curious.
“Henry’s actually more ruthless than I thought.”
Tess snorted. No wonder he was so sure no one would call out his lies.
“So, what now? We go find Nicholas’s son?”
Lyra looked at Tess.
“Where do we even start? There are tons of good students in Krigan; that’s an impossible search. Let’s just wait until school’s out and stake out his place.”
Lyra nodded. “It’s still early. How about we check out the hospital where Nicholas’s wife gave birth first?”
Tess agreed immediately.
They grabbed a taxi straight to Krigan Primal Hospital.
As soon as they got out of the cab, Lyra led Tess to the security monitoring room.
Tess was confused by how effortlessly Lyra moved, only snapping out of it when they were both standing in the surveillance room.
“Hi, is it even possible to check security footage from over ten years ago?”
Lyra smiled at the staff member, who was eyeing them suspiciously.
The staff nervously rested his hand on the phone. “Who are you? You know this area is restricted, right?”
“The recordings from ten years ago are stored on tapes in the archives. I hope you’ll leave soon and not disturb our work,” the lead female staff said sternly but gave them an explanation.
“Wendy, why are you wasting time talking to them?” another staff member said, glaring at them. “If you don’t leave now, we’ll call security!”
Tess ignored the threatening tone and kept her eyes fixed on the woman who had spoken to them earlier.
Judging by how respectfully the others treated her, she must be one of the main managers here.
“Hello, I need the surveillance footage from your hospital’s maternity ward dated June 7th, 16 years ago,” Tess said, staring at Wendy Smithson with a pleading look.
Wendy had assumed Tess was just another unwelcome visitor, but that gaze made her lower her guard.
Still, she shook her head. “Unless we get approval from higher-ups, the surveillance footage can’t be released. Sharing it with outsiders could also cause privacy violations and other risks.”
Tess felt troubled.
She knew she put them in an awkward position; her original plan was actually to sneak into the surveillance room to investigate.
Before coming to Krigan, she had secretly learned a few tricks from Raven.
Unexpectedly, Lyra just boldly pulled her into the room.
Tess turned to look at Lyra.
But Lyra was completely calm.
She rummaged through her bag and pulled out a document.
She held it up so everyone could see.
“Now?”
When they saw the bold letters on the document, their faces all changed, and they stared at Lyra and Tess in shock.
Wendy’s expression turned serious. “You…
“Can we see it now?”
After Lyra put the document away, Wendy composed herself, her face tense and eyes serious. “Normally, we need approval from higher-ups. Do you have a moment? I’ll go report this. They usually won’t refuse.”
Lyra and Tess exchanged a glance, then gestured to her. “Go ahead.”
