Justice For Juniper

Juniper couldn’t help but to move closer to Phineas as she caught sight of Lois and Carl Kennedy bearing down on her. Lois‘ face was one of pure rage and Carl seemed on the verge of having a vein which pulsed at his neck erupt.
“Where is my boy?”
“Uh, right there,” she made a face at Carl’s demand and pointed to the desk where Kyst was shackled.
“You should have called us when this happened. What is wrong with you to not call us when he’s in trouble?”
“Why should I have called you?”
“He got arrested. You came here but didn’t call us.”
“I think there is some confusion, Carl. I’m not here for Kyst.” She watched Lois‘ face turn from anger to bewilderment. “I was a witness to a crazy person driving their car full tilt into another car. I’m here to give statements.”
“Then why is he here?” Lois asked as she looked across the room where Kyst was staring at the ceiling in frustration as he realized his parents were barking up the wrong tree.
“He assaulted a woman.”

“My Kyst would never.”
“Oh, but he has. Twice now. In fact,” Juniper added.
“No!”
“Oh yes. He smacked a woman in the face last week at a coffee shop because she spilled coffee on him. Today a woman touched his arm, and he sent her flying. He didn’t care who saw him do it either. There were cops everywhere because of the lady who smashed into my car.”
“What the fuck is wrong with him?” Carl suddenly blurted out and then flinched when Lois smacked his arm furiously. “Jesus Christ Lois, he’s an idiot. We raised a god damned moron. He had an affair on his wife and not that I’m condoning it,” he schmoozed, “he stupidly brought her into his house as if he was begging to be caught.”
“I think he was,” Lois pouted. “I think all the pressure of trying to be the golden child at work and trying to be so perfect for Juni made him crack and he wanted her to catch him so it could end.”
Beni gave a laugh, “fuck, my mother would have a field day with you if she was your psychotherapist.”
Gonzalo nodded his agreement, “Ximena would probably strap her to the couch to ask why she facilitated her sons delusions.”

At the sound of Gonzalo’s voice, Carl finally looked at the group of men surrounding Juniper. “Rojas?”
“Yes.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, I’m here to support my future daughter–in–law. She was involved in a situation this morning where a lunatic drove her car into my daughter’s car in a bid to cause harm.”
“This is the accident you witnessed,” Carl questioned Juniper, still not connecting the dots.
“Yes.” Juniper felt a delightful buzz of energy slide down her spine as she readied herself to make Carl use his brain for a moment. “I was walking to my car where the driver was waiting, and she rammed right into it.” She watched her words land, his brow narrow and then his eyes widen as he looked at Juniper in stunned disbelief. She gave me a shrug.
“You’ve already moved on?” He looked at her in confusion, “Kyst was sure you would go home to him once you settled down.”
“Carl, he cheated on me with three different women that I know of. He had countless women in his phone who he flirted and exchanged sexual texts with all the time. There is a group chat right now of,” she looked at Adil, “how many women?”

“Eight.”

“Eight women who are all fighting over who Kyst loves more and who is going to win him over and it’s all because he is an expert manipulator and managed to make all these women think they were special. All of them thought if he weren’t married, he’d be with them.”
“I don’t believe you.” Lois hissed angrily.
“I do,” Carl shrugged. “Kyst is a good–looking man. He does alright for himself financially. I know he’s not packing a peanut. I’ve seen him flirt with women when Juniper isn’t around. I’ve smacked him up the back of the head for it more than once.”
“You knew he was cheating?” Juniper’s chest felt like it was caving in at the comment from the man she called her father–in–law for far too many years.
“Nope. I never even thought he would cheat on you Juniper, and if I did, I would have told you. You know this.”
“Do I?”
“Girl, the three of us played monopoly together more than once. Did I ever let him cheat?”
