Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 403

Amelia was deep into her notes, totally focused, when a fountain pen suddenly poked the numbers she’d just calculated.

“Redo this part,” Dr. Borgen said, his voice right next to her.

She looked up, her eyes shining. “Professor, you’re finally talking to me again!”

During the entire meeting, Dr. Borgen had barely said a word. When it was her turn to present, he didn’t even look at her. Amelia had already braced herself to be ignored for the rest of the project.

But Dr. Borgen stayed as stern as ever, tapping her lightly on the head with his pen. “Sloppy work. Even in early calculations, your margin for error should be as small as possible.”

“Yes, sir. Thank you for the correction,” Amelia said obediently.

Robert and the others watched from the side, a little moved. No matter what, the professor always had a soft spot for their youngest teammate.

Amelia’s gaze drifted to the pen in Dr. Borgen’s hand. The more she stared, the more familiar it looked.

Her eyes brightened as it clicked. “Wait, is that the pen I bought you with my first project bonus back in sophomore year?” Her voice grew a little shaky. “You still have it?”

Dr. Borgen snorted. “Don’t flatter yourself. I just grabbed any pen I could find before leaving. I’ll toss it on my way out.”

Amelia smiled, lips pressed together. “Fine. Toss it then, and I’ll have an excuse to get you a new one.”

He shot her a look. “Where’d you learn to be so shameless?”

He turned to leave. At the door, he paused and glanced back, trying to sound casual. “So, it’s really over? The divorce?”

Amelia nodded firmly. “Yes.”

For a second, Dr. Borgen’s stern face softened, but then he scowled again. “If you ever even think about going back, I—”

“I won’t,” Amelia cut in, serious. “Professor, I want a new beginning. I’m not going back to the path I left seven years ago.”

Dr. Borgen looked at her, really looked. Gone was the girl with the baby face. Now she was mature and tough, her resolve obvious. He felt a sting in his nose and quickly turned away before he lost control.

“Eat more. You’re all skin and bones now. All those extra chicken legs in college were for nothing,” he grumbled as he walked out, voice rough but caring.

Robert and the others hurried after him. In the elevator, Greg stuck out his hand. “Professor, give it here.”
