Chapter 128 A Lovesick Fool
Nancy said, “But this is too extravagant-‘
Before she could finish, Johnny gently patted her shoulder. His voice was soft and warm, perfectly tuned. “For me, this is barely enough, Nancy. Everyone’s waiting for you. You should
head back now.”
With that, Johnny stepped away.
Feeling a little helpless, Nancy turned around, only to bump into a solid chest. Rubbing her nose and frowning, she looked up to see a face so striking that it seemed almost divinely sculpted.
Gideon’s dark, narrow eyes held a teasing glint, and his sharp, perfectly sculpted features made him irresistibly handsome. “Is he pursuing you?”
When he spoke, a faint curve tugged at the corners of his mouth, yet the air around him
seemed to grow heavy and cold.
“Something like that,” Nancy replied vaguely.
As her words faded, the atmosphere around them grew even colder, and Nancy instinctively crossed her arms. It was unusually chilly tonight.
Gideon had one hand tucked into his suit pants, his posture tall and commanding. He lowered his gaze,
his dark, narrow eyes fixed on Nancy. “So, what do you think?”
“What do you mean?”
“Handsome, from a wealthy family,” Gideon started, his deep, alluring voice pleasant to the ears, yet carrying a hint of coldness. “What do you think?”
Nancy flashed a helpless smile. “I’ll eventually have to return to Boraska. We’re just passing
acquaintances. Maybe, in time, he’ll forget about me.”
A flicker of subtle relief crossed Gideon’s eyes.
But then a thought struck him. His gaze fell, and a fleeting shadow of self-mockery crossed
his face.
If Nancy knew his true feelings, she might feel the same way-that he could eventually let her go. But unfortunately, he knew deep down that he would never let her go.
Nancy said, “You brought the models, right? I haven’t even thanked you yet. You’ve helped me

so much. I don’t even know how to repay you.”
“How about… with yourself?” Gideon asked next, his dark eyes locked on hers.
Nancy froze.

A few seconds later, Gideon let out a soft, seductive laugh. “Just kidding. You didn’t actually think I was serious, did you?”
“No, I knew you were joking,” Nancy said with a soft smile. “But maybe don’t make that kind of joke in the future.”
“Why not?” Gideon asked, frowning slightly.
He wondered if she truly didn’t like him.
“There are so many people around. If someone you care about heard that, it might affect how they see you,” Nancy said seriously.
Gideon immediately felt a wave of relief, a faint, teasing smile playing on his lips. “You’re considerate, I’ll give you that. But don’t worry. She won’t find out, and even if she did… it
wouldn’t matter.”
Nancy raised an eyebrow, wondering if he really was ready to let go.
For some reason, she felt genuinely happy. “Letting go isn’t so bad. There are plenty of other women out there. Surely there’s someone better suited for you.”
“Maybe,” Gideon said lazily. “I’ve got a few social obligations here. After dinner, we’ll head back together?”
“Alright,” Nancy replied.
Gideon left and made his way to the private room upstairs.
Alex was staring at his phone, his expression tight with worry.
“What’s wrong?” Gideon asked, sitting across from him, his calm and commanding presence immediately filling the space.
Alex looked
up,
a hint of urgency in his eyes. “Uncle Gideon, Raine has gone missing.”
“Missing? And you’re worried about her?” Gideon’s tone was cold. “That woman wouldn’t let herself get hurt. Even if she appears wounded, it’s just a show for you.”
“Uncle Gideon, you have strong opinions about Raine?” Alex asked, confused.
“Alex, what have I taught you since you were a kid?” Gideon fixed his gaze on him.

“When you’re in the midst of things, it’s easy to lose your way. Think carefully about everything Raine has done lately. Is that how a good person behaves?”
Alex thought about Raine’s public challenge at the piano competition and the plagiarism in the design competition. It all weighed heavily on his mind.
