“Why did you get him a gift?” Gideon’s voice was flat, showing no emotion.

Nancy quickly made up an excuse. “Because he gave me a gift last time.”

“And what about me?” Gideon suddenly closed the distance between them, forcing Nancy to instinctively step back until her back hit the wall.

Gideon placed one hand on the wall by her head, his dark eyes fixed on her. “He gets gifts, so why don’t I?”

“What do you want?” Nancy could only ask, clutching the gift box tightly.

“I want…” Gideon’s gaze swept over Nancy’s delicate features and finally rested on her soft, red lips as he slowly leaned closer.

Their breaths gradually mingled, noses brushing lightly, and Nancy thought her heart might stop as she stared at Gideon’s striking face from up close. Their lips were less than an inch. apart, as if they would meet at any second.

“You know what I want, don’t you?” Gideon asked.

She looked up and saw Gideon watching her. Unlike his usual proud and aloof self, he radiated an air of loneliness and weariness. The way he gazed at her stirred an inexplicable sadness in

her heart.

Nancy froze as the doors slid shut.

Back at her apartment, Nancy’s mind kept replaying the way Gideon’s eyes had fixed on her, refusing to back down.

Leaning back on the couch, she watched the sunset paint the sky in deep shades of red and gold, but her throat felt unbearably dry.

Touching her face, she realized that she had been crying without noticing.

Taking a deep breath, Nancy noticed her phone light up on the table. It was an incoming group call, and Nancy immediately joined it.

Yelena was in high spirits as she said, “Everyone, I just landed another international deal! Come on, let’s celebrate!”

She instantly transferred a million dollars to Nancy and another million dollars to Hillary.

Hillary exclaimed, “Thank you, Yelena! Once I retire from the spotlight, I’ll work as your assistant!”
