Gideon smiled like it was nothing more than a casual question, but the atmosphere between them had already soured.

Nancy remembered the belt. “Hold on.”

A few minutes later, she returned with it in hand. “It was actually for you. I just worried that if you knew how I felt, you would pull back from me.‘

“So that’s what it was,” Gideon said as he accepted the belt, his smile turning warm. “Darling, regardless of what it is, you can just tell me. My heart is set on you.”

Nancy smiled and nodded. “Alright.”

When Gideon got home, a message from Skylar popped up. “Are you planning to stay in Riversdale forever?”

Without hesitation, Gideon started a video call.

Skylar was at a bar, nursing a drink in his hand. “What’s with the call? Something up?”

“Nothing urgent,” Gideon replied.

The camera angle sat oddly low and tilted. Skylar noticed this, but shrugged it off. “When are you coming back?”

“Not until this project is close to completion,” Gideon said.

“So, it’s another six months at least?” Skylar groaned. “You ditched me for Riversdale. I’m bored out of my mind here.”

Gideon gave a careless nod while fiddling with the new belt at his waist.

Skylar rambled on while Gideon replied in grunts. It was a little later when Skylar finally snapped, “What are you doing? Why are you fussing with that junky belt?”

“Junky? It is brand–new. Nancy bought it for me,” Gideon replied, smiling smugly.

Skylar’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Why would Nancy buy you a belt?”

Gideon raised an eyebrow. “Why do you

“I’m not buying it,” Skylar said, stung by Gideon’s smug look. “We agreed to be single together for life. How did you even get a head start?”

“You could get a girlfriend too, if you were honest with yourself.”

“Nope. I don’t like Hillary,” Skylar blurted.

Gideon narrowed his eyes.

Skylar realized he had messed up, and his face darkened. “I need another drink!”

He ended the call, sank into the couch, and downed his glass. He suddenly found himself in a

bad mood.

Meanwhile, Gideon was in a good mood himself.

After idly running the belt through his fingers, he called Corey. “Is Fuller Group partnering with any hospitals in Riversdale? Cancel the deal and put them on the blacklist. We won’t work with them again.”

The next morning, Nancy woke to bad news.

“Nancy, how could you treat Jasper like that?” Regina’s angry voice snapped through the phone. “His family basically runs the entire medical network in Riversdale. Now, his hospital won’t admit Martha for recovery. How will you take responsibility?”

The worst part was that Regina’s family had been working on a deal with Jasper, but he had just cut them off. The loss was significant, and her sister–in–law had taken it out on her that morning.

“Where is Grandma right now?” Nancy asked, cutting straight to the point.

“She’s at Ultracare Hospital!” Regina snapped, barely holding her temper back. “Get over here and apologize to Jasper right now!”

Nancy hung up and headed straight for Ultracare Hospital.

Inside the doctor’s office, Regina, Raine, and Martha were already waiting.

With her brow furrowed, Martha said, “If this doesn’t work, we’ll just leave.”

Regina held her back. “Martha, your health comes before everything. Ultracare has the best facilities. If we take you somewhere else and your condition gets worse, what will we do then?”
