“I saw the headlines,” Handon Jewelton said with a sigh. “I’m really sorry. I didn’t think would twist things like that. Are you alright?”

“Good. Still, I feel bad. Let me make it up to you two with dinner. Are you two free tonight?”

“No way.” Hillary was rendered speechless. “The whole world’s watching us right now. You want us to grab a meal together and give them even more to talk about?”

“How can you talk to Mom like that, Nancy?” Raine chimed in. “Sure, the Lidells might have lost you, but it also means you haven’t been around all these years to fulfill your duties as a daughter.” Hillary was furious. “Are all you Lidells brain–damaged, or is it only true for the ones I’ve met?
