Chapter 61 Having Dinner With You
Hillary’s laughter grew louder and more brazen over the phone.
Nancy was rendered speechless. She could only hang up and text, “I think you’re imagining things. Gideon came over today to buy a dress for some other woman!”
“Why did you hang up?” Hillary asked.
Nancy replied, “Gideon’s sitting right across from me.”
“Oh, so you’re having dinner together. But couldn’t the dress be for you?”
Nancy responded, “That’s unlikely…”
Hillary said, “I still think he bought it for you. Anyway, since you’re having a meal together, I won’t bother you any longer. I’ll talk to you later!”
The call ended, and Nancy looked up to see Gideon’s gaze lowered, focused on his phone.
In that moment of stillness, his looks were strikingly handsome. Apart from that, his strong
build gave her a calmness she couldn’t quite explain.
“Done with your call?” Gideon asked, looking up to face her.
“Yeah,” Nancy replied. She thought about asking him about it directly but held back because bringing it up would only make her seem too invested. Besides, they were barely even friends.
Their food arrived quickly. However, the waiter arrived with another woman in tow.
“It’s really you, Gideon!”
Winter’s eyes lit up the moment she saw Gideon. She happily slid into the seat beside him, her bright eyes fixed on his frame.
“Gideon, you like this place? I love it as well!” Winter exclaimed.
Gideon replied indifferently, “Ms. Seabourne, I have a guest with me.”
Only then did Winter notice Nancy sitting across the table, and her smile faded instantly.
Why was this woman having dinner with Gideon?
Though she suffered an inner turmoil, Winter immediately forced a smile. “It’s fine. Nancy and I know each other. Let’s eat together!”
Her overly sweet, cloying tone sent a shiver down Nancy’s spine. Was it possible to be this obsessed with someone?

“Ms. Seabourne,” Gideon called out in a low voice.
Ignoring the warning, Winter asked, “Nancy, you don’t mind, do you?”
Before Nancy could respond, Gideon cut in firmly. “Ms. Seabourne, I think I’ve made myself clear. I already have someone I like.”
Hearing his words, Winter looked to him in disappointment.
Nancy watched the scene unfold before her in silence, feeling a peculiar pang in her chest.
Winter really did like Gideon.
She insisted, “If it’s just liking someone, that means you’re not together yet, right? Gideon, I just want to hang out as friends, and I won’t get in your way.”
“I don’t want my feelings to be misunderstood,” Gideon said coldly and decisively.
His coldness toward Winter was almost painful to watch, even for Nancy.
Tears instantly welled up in Winter’s eyes. She suddenly looked at Nancy and asked, “Then, why can she have dinner with you while I can’t?”
Gideon glanced at Nancy and said calmly, “Because…”
Nancy couldn’t help but lean in, curious as to why she was the exception.
“Because Nancy doesn’t like me, so she can have dinner with me,” Gideon replied quietly.
Winter’s eyes reddened, and her lips trembled, yet she was left speechless.
For some reason, Nancy felt a hollow emptiness inside.
Was it only because she didn’t like him and wouldn’t cause him trouble that Gideon spent time
with her?
She soon took a bite of her food but found it oddly tasteless.
“Even so, I’m not giving up!” Winter said with red–rimmed eyes before leaving.
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
Nancy then said under her breath, “Mr. Fuller, you really are cruel.”
Gideon stared at her, the coldness fading from his voice. “Nancy, don’t you think it would be crueler if I gave her false hope?”
