Chapter 67 A Gifted Girl

Raine felt great satisfaction as she listened to the comments around her. Outwardly, she feigned concern for Mary.

“Don’t talk like that, everyone. Mary really does work hard.”

“You’re too kind, Raine! You’re still defending her even though she ignored you!”

“Exactly! It’s no wonder Nanette chose you as a student. When you win first place, you have to sign something for me.”

Raine played along with a smile. Her eyes carried a faint but unmistakable air of superiority.

Before long, the staff members came to inform the contestants to get ready.

The main hall was packed wall–to–wall.

The judges sat in the dimly lit front row.

Nancy glanced down at her phone to find that Regina was calling. She declined the call, only for a text to come in immediately after. It read, “Where are you?”

“I’m already inside,” Nancy replied.

“Come find me. I’m in C106.”

Nancy didn’t even bother replying. A moment later, Regine called again, but Nancy just switched her phone to silent and set it on the table. The performances had started, and she was watching each pianist intently.

Meanwhile, amongst the audience, Fergus noticed the displeasure on Regina’s face. “She’s still not here?”

“She says she’s inside. I told her to come find me, but she ignored me,” Regina muttered.

Fergus smirked. “How could she get in without an invitation? What? Did she come here to work as a staff member?”

“I don’t know. But after the performance is over, she has to come over. Raine said she wants a family photo,” Regina said, trying to keep her temper in check.

The music began as contestants took the stage one by one,

Soon, it was Raine’s turn.

Her sapphire gown shimmered under the lights, and she looked every bit like a fairy. The

“Raine!”

“She’s gorgeous!”

Seeing the entire hall cheer for her, Regina couldn’t hide her smile. Fergus grinned too. Raine’s amazing!”

Fergus turned to Andrew. “Dad, what do you think?”

“We’ve trained her since she was young. Of course she’s good.” Andrew gave a small nod of approval as he looked at Raine.

“Then can we cancel next month’s family dinner? I don’t want Raine to get upset,” Fergus said seriously.

Andrew frowned. He listened to the beautiful melody filling the hall for a few seconds before muttering, “We’ll talk about that later.”

A few minutes later, the music stopped.

Yvette Jackson leaned toward Nancy from her position at the judges‘ table. “Well, what do you think?”

“She’s got a solid foundation, but nothing unique of her own. All she has are rote techniques,” Nancy said coolly.

Yvette agreed. “I think so too.”

Still, Raine was far better than most of the other contestants.

The audience broke into another round of applause.
