Chapter 76 Cutting Ties

Everyone turned to look at Raine.

With her carefully crafted facade slipping, Raine kept shaking her head in denial. Ms. Shaw, you’ve got it wrong. I was only trying to warn you.

The way you warned me sure sounded pretty certain. I now know exactly what you were trying to do. You were using me as your attack dog against Nancy, you conniving bitch!Mirella snapped. She lunged forward to grab Raine by the hair.

Fergus stepped in to block her, but Mirella had latched on and simply wouldn’t let go.

Raine winced in pain. Let go of me!

You’ve got some nerve to use me like that!Mirella growled as she yanked harder. Fergus didn’t dare pull her forcefully as he didn’t want a fistful of Raine’s hair in his hands.

But seeing Raine in obvious pain twisted Fergusheart. He finally clamped his hand around Mirella’s wrist. That’s enough, Mirella!

Fergus, being a man, made Mirella scream in pain just from his grip alone.

Christopher’s expression darkened. He strode over and pulled Mirella toward him to inspect

her wrist.

Meanwhile, Raine’s hair was now a mess. She sobbed as she said, Ms. Shaw, I swear I didn’t mean anything by it. Why won’t you believe me?

Ms. Liddell, are you saying that Mirella is lying?Christopher turned his cold gaze on her.

I

Christopher glanced back at Mirella’s swollen wrist. Duran Corporation will no longer be working with the Lidells. All existing contracts are hereby terminated, effective immediately.

The words dropped like a hammer.

Duran Corporation’s real estate projects were wellknown in Riversdale. More importantly, Duran was a subsidiary of Moore Group.

Crossing Christopher might mean crossing the Moores entirely.

Raine’s lashes trembled as panic flickered in her eyes. She instinctively looked to Andrew. Sure enough, his expression had soured.

Andrew quickly stepped forward. Mr. Wentworth, please calm down. It seems that I’ve failed to raise my daughter properly. Raine, apologize to Mr. Wentworth at once!

Raine pouted. Apologizing in front of everyone would shred what was left of her reputation.

But one look at Andrew’s glare told her she had no choice. I’m sorry, Ms. Shaw. I didn’t mean it. I was just trying to warn you.

I can tell the difference between a warning and a smear campaign,Mirella said coldly.

Tears clung stubbornly to the corners of Raine’s eyes, yet they refused to fall. It was a look that made her seem all the more fragile. Fergus ached at the sight.

He rebutted, Raine has always been a kind soul. She’s nothing like what you’re accusing her of! You misunderstood her, and now you’ve turned on her! That’s cruel!
