Chapter 78 Keep Your Distance
Regina wasn’t impressed in the slightest. All Nancy had to her name was a knack for playing the piano.
Nancy returned to the VIP lounge with two plates of steaks in hand.
Gideon glanced at it. “For me?”
She hummed in assent.
Gideon picked up his cutlery and began slicing into it. His movements were as precise as someone who had etiquette ingrained into his muscles.
Nancy, on the other hand, preferred cutting one bite at a time rather than preparing the whole plate in advance.
She had just taken her first bite when Gideon, already finished cutting his, slid his plate in front of her and took hers in exchange.
“For you,” he said.
Nancy froze. She stared at the plate of steak Gideon had cut up for her. She pursed her lips before picking a piece up.
The big shots in the room exchanged knowing looks. They wondered when Gideon had ever
treated a woman so well.
No one treated Nancy like an outsider anymore. “Everyone’s been focused on the Western
District, so now’s a good time to talk about dividing up the East.”
Nancy caught on instantly. All the small talk earlier had just been a smokescreen to steer attention away from the real discussion.
Buying land wasn’t something those tycoons did blindly. Oftentimes, they met privately to agree on who would target which plots before any bidding began. But such talks only happened among people who trusted each other.
Gideon had already worked his way into their inner circle.
After each man stated their interest, Gideon turned to Nancy. “Which one do you want?”
Nancy hadn’t expected him to ask for her opinion. After thinking it over, she said, “Plot No. 173.”
“There’s going to be a fight for that one,” one of the men warned. “Several people have their

eye on it already.”

Nancy met his gaze evenly. “I’ll be ready for it. Moore Group is very interested in this auction,
too.”
The room went still for a moment. Was Nancy connected to Moore Group?
If that were true, some of them would have to think twice about competing for that plot of
land.
They carried on negotiating for another hour before the evening wound down. When Nancy and Gideon finally left and got into the car, Nancy turned to him. “There’s something I want to say.”
Gideon turned to look at Nancy. His features looked even more chiseled under the dim light.
Go on.”
“We should probably see less of each other from now on,” she said after a moment of
hesitation.
The air in the car cooled instantly. Gideon’s charming expression hardened.
“And why’s that?”
“Because you already have someone you like. If we keep spending time together, it might cause trouble. I don’t want her getting the wrong idea,” reasoned Nancy.
That was the result after thinking about it for a while.
