stated matter of factly.

Andrew grinned. “That’s true. If you win, it means our whole family wins, right?”

He tried to make it sound lighthearted, but Nancy didn’t dignify him with a response. Instead, she turned toward the couch where Martha was already sitting.

She took a seat beside her. “Grandma.”

“Nancy, is it still hot outside?” Martha casually asked.

“A little.”

The closeness between them made the others uncomfortable.

Raine clenched her jaw as resentment grew within her.

Regina’s face darkened as well. Her own daughter was cozying up to Martha. Despite that, Nancy was only ever an ungrateful girl to her.

Regina whispered to Andrew, “See that? She doesn’t care about us at all.”

“You’ve treated her poorly. Why would she care about you? Just make it up to her later. No matter what, she’s still our daughter.”

Regina could only mutter her agreement.

Martha glanced around, and everyone quickly composed themselves. “Now that we’re all here,

have a seat.”

The group settled onto the couches littering the living room.

“You’re all aware of why I called you here today, yes?” she asked.

“Of course, Martha,” Regina said with a smile. “We’re all family here. Regardless of who becomes the heir, it’s all the same in the end.”

Susan chimed in cheerfully, “Exactly! We’re just giving the younger generation a chance to prove themselves. That said, I honestly think it’ll still stay within the first branch. Nancy and Fergus are both capable people.”

Raine’s expression stiffened. Susan hadn’t mentioned her name.

“Wendy’s very talented too!” Regina quickly added.

“Alright, let’s get to the point. To be a worthy successor, you need more than just vision. You

need sharp business instincts and a deep understanding of Lidell Group.

“I’m giving each of you five million dollars to invest in a field of your choice. Three months from now, whoever turns the highest profit will receive all my shares and become the new heir of Lidell Group”

The atmosphere in the room turned electric at Martha’s words.

“I’ll take fashion design. I’ve already got several designs ready, and if all goes well, my new collection will debut next month,” Raine said sweetly.

“Oh, wow. You’re amazing!” Wendy said, genuinely envious. Raine always seemed to have endless talents. “I guess I’ll have to stick with the entertainment industry.”

Fergus declared, “It’ll be real estate for me. It’s our biggest source of revenue right now.”
