Amelia apologized quickly to the staff, but Charles turned and steadied her by the arm. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
A perfectly ordinary live stream from a movie theater suddenly featured a strikingly beautiful woman—and a hand so elegant you could just imagine it belonged to a handsome man. The stream’s comment section exploded.
The unexpected cameo sent a ripple of excitement through the platform, and the algorithm rewarded the stream with a modest boost in traffic.
Meanwhile, Finley, who hated being at home alone, was lounging around his girlfriend’s place, bored out of his mind. He was endlessly scrolling through short videos when he stumbled across a clip posted by a stranger—a screenshot that made him jolt upright as if he’d been shocked back to life.
“Holy crap! Isn’t that my sister-in-law?!”
His girlfriend turned to him, half-asleep. “Did you hit your head? You only have two half-siblings. Since when do you have a brother?”
“No, I mean Daniel.” Finley frowned, enlarging the image, then zoomed in again. “Wait, that’s not Daniel’s hand. Daniel never takes off his wedding band.”
He went from confusion to outrage in a heartbeat, as if he’d just caught his spouse cheating. “Who the hell is that guy? Some random dude has the guts to hit on my sister-in-law?! Unbelievable!”
…
With Sophia by her side, Amelia didn’t have to return alone to the cold, empty dorms at the research facility.
After saying goodbye to Charles, the two women called a driver to take them back to Sophia’s place.
Sophia’s hand was still healing, making it hard for her to drive. Amelia was so tired she didn’t dare get behind the wheel; she fell asleep almost the moment she got in the car.
In her half-awake haze, she heard the driver curse under his breath. Sophia, fighting off sleep herself, jerked awake. “What’s wrong, sir?”
“The car behind us is nuts—keeps trying to cut me off.”
Amelia tapped the driver’s seat. “Sorry about that. He’s off his meds—please don’t mind him. You can drop us here; thanks for your help.”
Daniel’s face twisted into a colorful mix of rage and embarrassment as the driver got out. Daniel opened the back door and turned to Sophia. “Out. I need a word with Amelia. Alone.”
Sophia glared at him like he was the devil himself, chin raised defiantly. “Why should I? I’m not moving unless you walk over my dead body.”
He tossed her a set of car keys with a distinctive ‘RR’ logo. “Go sit in that car. It’s yours now.”
Her bravado evaporated in an instant. Disbelief mingled with a barely contained longing as she stared at the keys—her eyes wide with desire for the Rolls-Royce.
At a time like this, there was no reason to sacrifice friendship for cash. Amelia patted her on the shoulder. “Take it. Seriously—don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”
After all, she thought, I’m getting divorced anyway. Might as well take him for everything he’s worth.
