Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 164

Ian had spent decades navigating official circles, and his composure was unshakable. He grabbed Samuel’s arm, signaling him not to lose his temper, then turned to Daniel, wearing that practiced, agreeable smile meant to smooth things over.

“Mr. Campbell, Samuel acted out of turn. I must admit, I’ve failed in guiding him properly. If he’s offended you in any way, please accept my sincerest apologies on his behalf. My mother and my wife are both in fragile health—they can’t withstand any more stress. If you’re willing to let them go, we can talk about anything you want.”

Daniel’s expression turned to ice. “What are you implying, Mr. Wilson? Someone from the Wilson family goes missing and you immediately suspect me?”

“If not you, then who else—”

Ian kept a tight grip on the hot-headed Samuel, still smiling that insincere, conciliatory grin. “Mr. Campbell, I know your wife has been through a lot, and Samuel simply wanted to be friends with her—he just went about it the wrong way, with no ill intent. Could you do me a favor and let this go? If you ever need anything in the future, Samuel will do whatever it takes to help you.”

For most businessmen, an offer like that from Mr. Wilson would be pure gold—enough to make anyone’s day. But Daniel’s face remained stony, his brow furrowing as he shot back, “My wife was kidnapped for several hours last night, but your people claim she managed to escape and nobody was caught. Are you saying, Mr. Wilson, that you had my wife—?”

The word “kidnapped” didn’t escape Ian’s notice. It meant Daniel was still fixated on the ordeal—and the fact that Daniel himself wasn’t entirely sure what had happened made Ian rush to deny any involvement. “No, no, last night’s incident had nothing to do with Samuel. I was referring to an earlier matter.”

A sly old fox—he wanted to handle the fox by playing its own tricks. Daniel gave a cold, inward laugh, spreading his hands in mock confusion. “So, if last night’s kidnapping has nothing to do with you, why would I have any reason to target your family? Or are you admitting that it was actually you, Mr. Wilson, who arranged my wife’s abduction, and now you assume I’ve retaliated by taking someone from your side?”

A bead of sweat slid down Ian’s back. Only two words echoed in his mind—It’s over.

Daniel’s move was ruthless. If the Wilsons insisted Daniel had kidnapped their missing family member, they’d be admitting Samuel’s involvement in Mrs. Campbell’s abduction, which would make Daniel’s supposed retaliation seem justified. But if they denied it, then what about Mrs. Yolanda Wilson and Mrs. Wilson, who were still missing…?

“You ungrateful brat!” Ian slapped Samuel across the face. “Your grandmother raised you, and this is how you repay her? Shameless!”

Both men were desperate to save their own mother, neither willing to back down. Father and son descended into a furious argument, each grabbing at the phone and shouting over the other.

Meanwhile, Daniel sat back, a cold smirk playing on his lips. He brushed imaginary lint from his pant leg and settled comfortably into his chair, content to watch the two of them tear each other apart. If anything, he decided to stoke the fire.

“Honestly, who dreams up this kind of twisted, lose-lose scenario? A forced choice between two mothers—what a nightmare.”

He glanced at Ian, his tone mocking. “Careful, Mr. Wilson. You’re still recovering from your injuries, aren’t you? Tsk, tsk—you’re bleeding again.”
