Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 175

The next morning, after Daniel left for the office, Amelia headed out with the housekeeper to do some grocery shopping.

She loved wandering the bustling local market, soaking in its earthy energy. Amelia’s fingers trailed over a plump, glossy eggplant, then drifted to a bright red pepper, vivid as a sunset.

The housekeeper grinned. “Buying all of Daniel’s favorites—planning to cook him something special?”

Amelia shook her head. That ship had sailed. She wouldn’t cook for him again, not even if it was for the family dog.

“I just wanted to look around. You’re still the best cook, anyway. No one in the world makes food as delicious as you do!”

Her flattery had the housekeeper beaming, sleeves already rolled up before they made it home. Energized, she whipped up the most mouthwatering lunch imaginable.

Amelia packed the colorful, fragrant dishes into a thermal container and drove to Daniel’s office.

At the front desk, there was a new receptionist—a woman with perfectly styled hair and heavy makeup, clearly counting down the minutes to her lunch break and not trying to hide it.

“Do you have an appointment? If not, you’ll need to leave.”

The woman didn’t recognize Amelia, and Amelia wasn’t about to announce her identity. She smiled politely. “I’m a friend of Mr. Campbell’s. Would you mind calling up to let him know I’m here?”

The receptionist gave her a once-over, clearly unimpressed, her voice tinged with thinly veiled sarcasm. “Everyone claims they’re a friend. If I called up for every single one, I’d never get any real work done. Mr. Campbell is far too busy to take calls from random people.”

Amelia had a high tolerance for rudeness. She reminded herself this woman was just doing her job—even if she was a bit of a gatekeeper. No point in making a fuss.

“I’ll just call Daniel myself.”

Take her up? How absurd—Daniel’s actual wife needing the mistress to escort her to his office.

The receptionist’s bright smile lingered until the elevator doors slid shut. In the quiet of the mirrored elevator, Violet said, “Rough, isn’t it? I’m here so often everyone knows me, and you’re basically a stranger.”

The polished walls reflected Amelia’s slender silhouette, her grip tightening on the lunch container for a moment before she let go. “Congratulations, then. Looks like your face opens a lot of doors.”

Violet wasn’t bothered by the jab. She glanced at Amelia’s loose-fitting top, a brief smirk flickering across her face. “You can hold your congratulations until after we’re married.”

Amelia turned her head, her gaze cool. “What have you been eating lately? Your tongue’s gotten even sharper.”

The elevator chimed and the doors slid open. Amelia didn’t bother waiting for Violet to respond, tossing out, “Probably garbage, since you still talk the same crap as always.”
