Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 176

Violet’s face flushed with anger. “You—”

Amelia strode off toward the office, her head held high, utterly unconcerned whether Violet puffed up with rage or exploded on the spot.

Just as she reached the door, Daniel’s assistant happened to step out. The woman greeted her respectfully, “Mrs. Sinclair.”

Hearing voices, Daniel looked over. The irritation lingering on his face from a subordinate’s mistake vanished instantly, as if a gentle hand had swept away the clouds to let sunlight pour through.

His eyes softened with a smile. “What brings you here today... and with lunch, no less?”

Amelia set the insulated bag down on the small dining table in the lounge area. “I thought I’d join you for lunch.”

Daniel’s smile deepened. He slipped off his suit jacket and walked over, rolling up his sleeves. “Did you make it yourself?”

“The housekeeper did.”

There was no point pretending—he could always tell the difference. Amelia unpacked the containers and arranged them neatly. “If you’re not going to eat unless I cook, then I’ll just eat by myself.”

Daniel caught her hand, his thumb brushing over her slender fingers, the nails clean and perfectly trimmed. Her skin was soft as fresh cream.

“If these hands brought it all the way here for me, it would be a crime not to eat. How could I refuse?”

He had a way with words, always ready with a charming line. Fortunately, Amelia was immune by now. She pulled her hand free. “Eat while it’s hot, unless you want a cold lunch.”

“No rush. I could use a little appetizer first.”

He slipped an arm around her waist, leaning down, his eyes dark with intent.

Amelia instinctively pushed against him, but then thought better of it and let him have his way.

So that’s why Violet hadn’t come in alone; she’d gone to fetch her “good friend.”

Violet acted as if Amelia wasn’t even there. Her eyes lit up when she spotted the spread on the table. “Wow, did you bring all this, Amelia? It looks amazing! Can we join you?”

Amelia unpacked two sets of utensils, her polite smile unwavering. “I only brought enough for two, I’m afraid. Not quite enough for four.”

Violet’s disappointment was written all over her face.

Mogan glanced at Violet, then suggested, “Why not have the kitchen send something up for everyone? That way, we can all eat together.”

Amelia’s fingers tightened around her fork. She looked to Daniel, waiting for his answer.

Daniel’s gaze briefly passed over Mogan and Violet before he nodded. “Sure, that’s fine.”
