Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 177

Amelia had brought enough food for two, but the portions were generous. With the extra dishes the assistant had the kitchen send up, the table was piled high—enough for four people and then some.

Whether by accident or design, Violet barely touched the food from the kitchen. Instead, she kept picking at the dishes Amelia had brought.

She even gushed, “This is delicious! Amelia, I had no idea the cook at Emerald Meadows was this talented. I’m so jealous!”

From the moment Violet sat down, Amelia found each bite harder to swallow.

In the end, most of the food she’d brought ended up in the “other woman’s” stomach.

Now, hearing Violet say things like that, Amelia couldn’t help but worry that Daniel, blinded by infatuation, might blurt out, “If you like it so much, I’ll have the Emerald Meadows cook make you whatever you want.”

Thank God Daniel hadn’t lost all sense—at least not that much.

Mogan, noticing Violet’s fondness for the home-style baked fish, used the serving fork to place another piece on her plate. “If you like it, have some more.”

Daniel glanced over, his expression unreadable, but said nothing.

Violet’s smile was sweet, her satisfaction obvious. “Our cook has made this before, but it never tastes quite like the one at Emerald Meadows. You’re so lucky, Amelia, getting to eat food like this every day.”

Another not-so-subtle hint. Amelia shot a sideways glance at the man beside her.

Daniel acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, eating slowly and methodically.

Amelia felt a tiny wave of relief.

It was one thing for Violet to chase after a man, but did she have to go after the household staff too? Violet really didn’t know when to stop.

Just because Amelia didn’t care anymore didn’t mean she was willing to give up everything. Losing a cook to Violet would feel like getting stabbed in the back.

When Daniel still didn’t take the bait, Violet seemed a bit deflated. She nibbled on the fish, clearly wanting to say something more, when suddenly she clutched her throat and started coughing.

She’d gotten a bone stuck.

Mogan took her hand, glaring at Amelia with icy disdain, but his tone softened instantly for Violet. “Don’t worry. You never speak up, so she thinks she can push you around.”

He turned and shot Amelia a colder look. “Don’t think you can get away with anything just because you’re Mrs. Campbell. Violet may let things go, but that doesn’t mean it’s over. I’d suggest you watch yourself.”

Amelia felt her blood pressure spike. She opened her mouth, ready to fire back, but Daniel reached under the table and took her hand. “Let it go.”

Let it go?

Amelia turned to look at him.

Daniel squeezed her fingertips gently, a quiet reassurance. “Let it go. Just don’t say anything more.”

Amelia’s eyes burned.

Not from heartbreak—but from the humiliation, from the anger.
