Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 186

The nurse noticed Amelia was awake and brought her a glass of warm water, her tone gentle as she asked, “Would you like something to eat?”

Amelia pressed a hand to her stomach and shook her head. “I just want to go home.”

“Do you need us to arrange a ride?” the nurse offered.

“No, thank you. My friend is coming to pick me up.”

As soon as Sophia heard Amelia was at the hospital, she rushed over. Amelia, wrapped in a long cashmere coat, stood outside the hospital in the gentle sunlight, feeling the warmth slowly seep back into her body.

“What happened? Why did you have to come to the hospital?” Sophia reached out to feel her forehead. “Are you sick? What did the doctor say?”

Buckling her seatbelt, Amelia managed a small smile. “I was just thinking about your mushroom and chicken soup.”

“Say no more,” Sophia replied, firing up the engine. “If my darling wants soup, I’ll catch a chicken fresh from the clouds if I have to.”

Sophia was a master in the kitchen. The soup, clear and fragrant, simmered in a heavy Dutch oven, its aroma filling the room. One sip warmed Amelia all the way down to her stomach.

“Are you sure it’s just a cold? You really don’t look well.” Sophia pressed her palm to Amelia’s forehead again, frowning. “Maybe you should get a second opinion. I know a great doctor.”

“I’m fine, really. Just tired, that’s all.”

Sophia pinched her cheek lightly. “Of course you’re tired—dealing with that jerk and his sidepiece would exhaust anyone. All for the sake of my new clothes and handbags, my poor darling.”

Amelia set down her bowl and reached for Sophia, burying her face in her friend’s shoulder. “Sophia, I just feel so useless…”

Sophia sighed and held her close. “It’s not your fault. That bastard has money, power, and knows how to play dirty. He’s dragging out the divorce on purpose—you’re doing what you can, one day at a time.”

Amelia said nothing, just held on to Sophia for a long time.

Rolling her suitcase into the corner of the walk-in closet, Amelia teased, “I think you’re the one who’ll end up crying. You’ve only been married a year, and now you have to say goodbye for three. Better stock up on tissues, or I’ll need an umbrella to dodge all your tears.”

Oliver was in such high spirits he didn’t care about her teasing. “Guess what—I have some great news. My wife’s pregnant! We just got the results back—and it’s twins!”

Amelia was momentarily stunned, then her eyes lit up as she smiled. “Congratulations! But you’d better take good care of her—carrying twins isn’t easy.”

“I know,” Oliver said, his mood turning somber. “The worst part is, I can’t even be there for her. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry.”

Leaning against her jewelry cabinet, Amelia glanced down at her own stomach. “Then take extra good care of her while you still can. You’ve only got a few days left—make her happy.”

“What do you mean, ‘a few days left’?”

A man’s voice spoke suddenly behind her. Startled, Amelia’s hand jerked and she nearly dropped her phone.
