Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 317

The helicopter door slid open with a metallic clatter, and the propellers whipped up a wild wind that sent everyone’s hair flying in all directions.

Amelia didn’t even catch a glimpse of the instructor’s face—her hair was a chaotic mess, whipped around by the gale, and her nerves were stretched to the breaking point. Her heart hammered so hard she could almost hear it over the roar.

She tried to retie her ponytail, fumbling with the hair tie, but her sweaty fingers slipped and failed her. After a few awkward attempts, the instructor behind her took the hair tie from her and deftly pulled her hair into a snug, low bun.

“Relax,” he said.

The wind scattered his voice, making it almost impossible to catch the words, but somehow the tone was steadying, a calm anchor in the chaos.

Ava was already sitting at the edge of the cabin, grinning back at Amelia with a reckless spark in her eyes. “Amelia, I’m going first! Good luck!” she called out.

Before Amelia could even answer, Ava was gone—leaping into a perfect backflip out of the helicopter.

Their other friend didn’t hesitate either, following Ava out into the open sky.

At some point, Amelia realized the instructor had clipped the harnesses together. Suddenly, she was pressed back against a solid wall of muscle—her back flush against the instructor’s chest.

He guided her slowly toward the door.

“W-wait, wait—”

The closer they moved to the open sky, the stronger the wind grew. Amelia’s hands scrabbled blindly, clutching at the instructor’s thigh in a panic. “Just—just give me a second.”

“The longer you wait, the scarier it gets. Are you sure you want to wait?” he asked, glancing down at her small, white-knuckled hand gripping his leg. He didn’t rush her, just let her catch her breath.

But he was right—the longer she lingered, the worse the fear got. The drone of the propellers and the howling wind filled her ears, and all she could see through the open door was endless cloud and sky. The helicopter rocked beneath her, and vertigo pressed in from every side. Her heart hammered against her ribs so hard she thought it might burst.

If she kept stalling, she’d lose her nerve completely. Summoning every ounce of courage, Amelia blurted, “I’m ready!”
