Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 328

“I can tell the difference.” Amelia shook off his hand. “I’d rather get a ride from a friend than from my soon-to-be ex-husband. There are more than a few stories about women getting attacked right before the divorce papers are signed.”

Robert’s car was parked just a few steps away. As they reached it, Robert pulled open the passenger door for her. Daniel’s sharp eyes caught sight of a familiar bottle of car air freshener sitting on the dashboard.

Daniel’s composure cracked. “Amelia, why does he have that too?”

The word ‘too’ hit the mark. Robert glanced at Amelia, who met his gaze without flinching. “You took the one I originally bought. So I went and got another. What’s the big deal?”

Daniel let out a breathless laugh, half annoyed, half amused. So she’d made a special trip to the mall that day to buy an air freshener—not for herself, but for Robert?

He’d snatched the original from her, and then she’d turned around and bought another for Robert?

Same gift, given to two different men—Amelia really did have a talent for keeping things balanced.

“So just because you gave me the air freshener, you had to give him one too? Amelia, who even thinks of giving the same thing to two people?” Daniel shot back.

“First of all, I didn’t give it to you—you took it from me.” Amelia’s laugh was cold. “Second, giving the same gift to two people isn’t something only I’ve done, is it?”

Daniel narrowed his eyes, sensing an implication behind her words. “What’s that supposed to mean? Say it straight.”

“It doesn’t mean anything.”

Amelia moved to get in the car, but Daniel caught her by the hand—right over her wound. She sucked in a sharp breath.

“What’s wrong?” Daniel immediately let go, but then gently took her hand again, rolling up her sleeve. His face darkened. “How did this happen?”

Amelia pulled her hand free. “It’s none of your business.”

Daniel’s expression soured, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything harsh to her—not when she was hurt. He turned to Robert. “At the very least, I have a right to know. We’re still married.”

Robert glanced at Amelia, then replied, “Dog bite.”

Amelia slammed the car door shut, and Robert got in the driver’s seat, pulling away from the curb.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything,” Robert apologized.

Amelia slowly rolled her sleeve back down. “It’s fine. It’s nothing. If he knows, he knows.”

Getting bitten by a dog was so mundane, it wasn’t worth wasting anyone’s energy or concern.
