Chapter 151
Chloe’s attitude struck a nerve in Ian.
He bent down, scooped her up, and set her down on the mahjong table.

Dressed in black slacks and a crisp white shirt, Ian’s “modelesque” proportions made his already hot figure look long, lean, and irresistible.
He leaned in, one hand locked around Chloe’s lower back and the other pinning down beside her, trapping her under him.
They stared silently into each other’s eyes, so close their breaths tangled in the charged air.
Chloe leaned back using both hands, her eyes wary and full of tension.
She tried to negotiate, her voice gentle: “Hey, take it easy, can you put me down first so we can talk?”
Ian’s hand at Chloe’s waist slid a little higher almost on its own, his gaze fixed on her lips as his voice unconsciously grew tender.
“It’s been days since we last saw each other. Did you miss me?” he asked.
Chloe was caught off guard by his question.
She froze for a second, then snapped back to reality.
She shot back, “Ian, seriously? What’s wrong with you? Stuff like this, you should-”
But before she could finish, Ian silenced her with a kiss, swallowing up the rest of her words.
He gripped the back of her head, leaving her no chance to pull away.
His warm lips covered hers, lingering restlessly, torn between restraint and desperate longing.
It didn’t matter if Chloe missed him or not.
But he missed her.
He missed her thoughts, her voice, and the feel of her body.
Ian’s hand slipped under her clothes, his fingers expertly working the bra clasp like he’d done it a thousand
times before.
He held her captive against him, devouring her with kisses, his ragged breaths betraying the hunger he’d barely contained.
Chloe could feel him pressing closer, and panic set in as she tried to break free.
Just as lan’s kisses trailed downward, intent on claiming more of her, Chloe’s stomach roiled out of nowhere.

Chloe shoved lan away with a retching sound, nearly rolling off the mahjong table in her frantic scramble.
Ian’s face couldn’t get any darker as he caught her just in time.
But before lan could utter a word, Chloe pushed past him and darted straight for the bathroom.
A few minutes later.
Ian was crouched beside Chloe, tissues in one hand and a glass of water in the other.
Chloe clung to the toilet, a sweaty mess and puking her guts out.
Ian handed her the water. “Rinse out your mouth first. If you’re still feeling terrible, I’ll take you to the hospital for a full check–up.”
Chloe rinsed her mouth, then splashed some water on her face.
She turned to Ian. “Could you give me a moment alone? I’m okay now.”
Ian stood beside her, their eyes meeting in the mirror.
He asked, “Do you really hate me that much now?”
‘She can’t even stand my touch anymore. Is that how much she hates me?‘ Ian wondered.
Chloe felt a mix of annoyance and confusion swirling inside her.
She didn’t say a word, just pushed Ian out of the bathroom–keeping her gaze cold, refusing to look at him.
The bathroom door clicked shut behind him.
Chloe pressed her back against the door, sliding down as if all the strength had drained from her, completely
spent.
Her period had always shown up like clockwork at the end of every month–never a day late.
Now it was April 3rd, so she was a couple days overdue, but she told herself that was still within the normal range… nothing to freak out about. Right?
Two days ago, while grabbing lunch with her coworkers in the cafeteria, she’d suddenly felt nauseous out of
nowhere.
She’d just chalked it up to catching a chill or something and brushed it off, not giving it a second thought.
But now, tonight, it was the second time she’d been hit with sudden waves of nausea.
She’d noticed lately that her appetite was through the roof and she was sleeping like a log–her coworkers even joked she was looking a little chubbier these days.

She thought it was just because lan wasn’t around, so her mood was up and she didn’t pay it any more mind.
But now, thinking back, she realized she’d totally let her guard down.
Chloe was a doctor–she might not have personal experience with pregnancy, but she could put two and two together.
Chloe wrapped her arms tight around her knees, feeling utterly at a loss. Her breath came in short, shaky bursts–she just couldn’t calm herself down.
‘I need to get my hands on a pregnancy test the moment I get to work tomorrow and find out for sure,‘ she thought, anxiety gnawing at her.
Outside the bathroom, Ian stood there, his gaze locked onto the door.
He stared, tense, like he was trying to see through it with pure willpower.
Suddenly remembering something, Ian whipped out his phone and tapped into the calendar app.
His expression shifted a few times before his eyes landed right back on the closed bathroom door.
Ian gripped his phone tight, excitement blazing in his eyes–his breathing picking up, unable to hide it even for a second.
Whatever he was thinking, Ian couldn’t help the grin tugging at his lips, his eyes growing warmer and more tender by the moment.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a call.
Ian gave the bathroom door a gentle knock. “Chloe, I’m gonna take this call, but don’t lock yourself in there, okay?”
Chloe didn’t answer.
Ian knocked again, his voice edged with concern. “Chloe?”
Chloe squeezed her eyes shut, trying to steady her breathing.
She did her best to compose herself, then finally opened the bathroom door and stepped out.
Ian’s eyes filled with mixed emotions as he couldn’t help but notice how pale Chloe looked.
He reached out, gently guiding her to the bed, pulling back the blanket so she could get in.
Bending down, he brushed a few stray hairs from her forehead. “I’ll be in the study taking this call. Just holler if you need anything, okay?”
Ian handled her like she was made of glass, his gaze warm and gentle. “Make sure the blanket’s pulled up- don’t go catching a chill.”
Chloe met Ian’s eyes, and for no clear reason, she felt herself growing uneasy all over again.

Ian’s gaze lingered on Chloe’s noticeably softer, shapely figure, his eyes melting with tenderness as he watched
her.
His phone rang again, and lan slipped out of the bedroom on tiptoe.
