Marriage Lies and a Dangerous Obsession novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Chloe was hiding in the bathroom, feeling lost and dazed, her mind in a complete fog.

Her heart was racing, but she didn’t dare make a sound.

She slumped down next to the toilet, feeling as helpless as a child.

Ian had planned everything, getting her pregnant just so he could use the baby to keep her trapped.

Even if she had the baby, it would only be turned into a bargaining chip for him.

She couldn’t give this child a real, loving home.

Even if she did give birth, the little one was destined never to be loved.

Even so, the baby was completely innocent in all this.

But she couldn’t let this baby be born.

And she knew, more than anything, that no one could ever find out she was carrying Ian’s child.

She had to figure out a way to end this pregnancy before anyone else suspected a thing.

When she heard the knock outside, Chloe quickly composed herself and went to open the bathroom door.

Eric noticed Chloe looked off and asked with genuine concern, Has work been too much for you lately? Want to take a few days off?

Chloe managed a weak smile. Thanks, Eric. I think I just didn’t sleep well last night. Really, I’m fine.

Eric set a file down on Chloe’s desk.

He said, There’s an expert symposium in Harbor City at the end of the month. Our hospital only has three spots, and I’m hoping you’ll attend and pick up something new. Does that sound good to you?

Chloe’s excitement flickered in her eyes the moment she heard about the event in Harbor City.

I’m in, Eric, she replied.

She was only about four weeks along, so she could easily wait until the end of the month.

With the symposium as her legitimate reason, she could head to Harbor City and slip out from under lan’s watchful eyes.

After the event, she’d just say she needed to stay in Harbor City for a couple more days, and then she could take care of it without anyone ever finding out.

After Eric left, Chloe anxiously paced her office, unable to calm down.

If lan was scheming against her, there was no way he’d miss a single detailhe’d be watching her closer than

ever.

She’d gotten so sick last night, and Ian’s reaction had been way too strangenot normal at all. He definitely suspected something.

She had to think of a way to cover her tracks and make lan drop his suspicions for good.

Chloe picked up her office phone, and soon her assistant Joanna knocked and walked in.

Chloe quietly whispered something in Joanna’s ear, and Joanna just nodded before heading out.

Over an hour later, Joanna came back.

She handed Chloe the bloodwork report and a pack of meds.

Chloe’s name was printed right there on the medical form.

The results showed her white blood cell count and neutrophil levels were way above the normal range.

After stopping by Rowe Estate in the afternoon, Chloe headed home early.

But Ian was already back before she even got there.

He walked over to Chloe, bent down, and set a pair of slippers right at her feet.

Chloe changed into them without a word, keeping her expression neutral.

Ian said, Since you’re always working at the hospital, flats will be so much easier on your feet. Tomorrow, let me take you to the mall. We can pick out a few comfy pairs together.

Chloe caught the underlying hint in Ian’s words right away.

She didn’t respond and just walked straight over to the kitchen bar.

Noticing lan close behind her, Chloe set her bag down without saying a word.

Ian poured her a cup of warm water.

Jan studied her closely and said, You look pale. You should probably get a full checkup. I’ll come with you

tomorrow.

Chloe kept her eyes down, masking the turmoil within.

She shook her head, brushing him off gently. I’m fine.

While saying this, Chloe reached into her purse and pulled out a bag of meds.

She methodically laid out two pills of each kind on the counter, making sure lan could see everything.

Ian’s eyes darted between Chloe and the cold medicine laid out before her, suspicion flickering across his

face.

Just as Chloe was about to pop the pills, Ian grabbed her wrist, his tone firm. Don’t just take medicine like that. Tomorrow, I’ll take you for a proper checkup.”

Chloe jerked her hand away from Ian’s grasp.

Meeting his gaze

with unwavering seriousness, Chloe replied, Ian, did you forget I’m a doctor?

The two stared each other down, neither willing to give in.

Ian looked Chloe over but couldn’t spot anything off about her.

Right in front of Ian, Chloe calmly put all the pills in her mouth and washed them down with a drink of

water.

She put the glass aside and met Ian’s serious gaze. Really, it’s just a little cold. The meds will do the trick. No need to get all worked up about it.

With that. Chloe turned and headed back to her bedroom.

Once inside, she quietly closed the door behind her.

After a few seconds, she cracked the door open just a little.

Peeking through the small gap, Chloe watched anxiously as Ian fished the bloodwork report out of her bag. She barely dared to breathe, her heart pounding in her chest.

She knew Ian was suspicious as everhe wouldn’t fall for that just a coldexcuse for a second.

Good thing she’d covered all her bases.

Chloe slipped into the bathroom, locking the door behind her.

She took a sealed pack of sanitary pads from the drawer, ripped it open, and with hands trembling slightly, pulled a test tube out of her pocket.

More than an hour later *

Chloe stepped out of the bathroom, her hair toweldried and fresh, only to find lan straightening up the bed,

Walking over, Chloe picked up her pillow, clearly planning to leave, but lan reached out to block her.

Without saying a word, Jan took the pillow from her arms, his grip firm yet gentle.

lan spoke in a low, serious voice, I’ve already had the guest room bed taken away

Chloe was startled by his move. If you’re insisting on the bed, then I’ll take the couch, she said, refusing to

back down.
