Chloe had barely taken a few steps when a blinding beam from the airport entrance cut through the darkness, forcing her to skid to a halt.

From afar, she spotted the Hamilton family’s bodyguards standing shoulder to shoulder at the entrance–and her heart plummeted.

‘So that’s why Ian was so damn composed when he told me to get out of the car, Chloe thought.

‘He’d set this all up. He knew there was no way I’d get away!

“Philip, you should get some rest,” Chloe said, not bothering to sound concerned.

She brushed Philip off with a few words and decisively ended the call.

This was the first time she’d seen Ian this out of control.

Ian was always so calculating and ruthless–she couldn’t risk dragging Philip into this.

Chloe turned around, feeling totally numb inside.

Ian was slowly getting out of the car.

He was dressed in a sharp, high–end suit that showed off his tall frame, and his whole vibe was cold and intimidating.

He came to a halt a few steps from Chloe, making no move to close the distance.

Chloe looked around nervously, then steeled herself and walked back toward Ian.

Ian reached out his hand.

Chloe had no choice but to hand over her phone.

Ian opened her phone and immediately spotted the call record from her just–ended conversation with Philip.

His face was getting scarier by the second, and you could practically see the fury building.

Chloe stammered, “It was Simon–I swear, he was messing around with some game and accidentally dialed

me.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Chloe cursed herself inside for coming up with such a lame excuse.

It was already well past one in the morning–what kind of kid would even be awake, let alone gaming right now? She realized how flimsy her story sounded.

But Ian didn’t call her out. He just watched her, his expression unreadable.

He wrapped one arm firmly around Chloe’s waist, drawing her into his hold with an easy show of dominance.

Fixing his gaze on her, lan asked, his tone deceptively soft, “Is Philip’s kid really your type? So that’s what you

like?”

Though his voice sounded gentle, the underlying chill sent shivers down Chloe’s spine.

Chloe stood rigid, refusing to respond.

Feeling lan’s grip around her waist suddenly tighten, Chloe quickly blurted out.

“Ian, I’ve already worn the dress Philip gave me, so I can’t exactly return it. I’ll pay him back tomorrow, seriously. And I promise I won’t ever take anything from him again. Just let me go home, okay?” she pleaded.

Ian’s tone was unreadable. “So, you finally get it?”

Chloe nodded vigorously, desperate to prove she meant it.

Ian pressed her, “You won’t lie to me anymore?”

Chloe shook her head just as hard.

Ian pressed on, “Then, will you give me a chance to make it up to you?”

Chloe gritted her teeth and nodded again, as hard as she could.

At this point, she’d nod no matter what Ian said–even if he claimed to be her dad–just to get herself out of this situation.

There was no way she was getting on that helicopter.

As Ian’s face filled her vision, Chloe immediately realized what he was planning and, without thinking, reached out to push him away.

But Ian grabbed her hand and pressed it firmly against his chest, then leaned down and kissed her on the brow and eyelids. “Be good,” he murmured, his voice low and authoritative.

As soon as he finished speaking, Ian suddenly bent down and lifted Chloe off her feet in one swift motion, cradling her in his arms.

Completely caught off guard, the shock spilled into Chloe’s voice as she cried out in surprise.

Seeing Jan striding urgently toward the helicopter with Chloe cradled in his arms, panic flooded her all over again.

She tried to squirm out of his grip, but lan hoisted her over his shoulder with one arm, carrying her like she weighed nothing.

Chloe’s mind was spinning. One hand clutched lan’s suit jacket while the other hammered at his back. “Ian, you lunatic! Put me down right now!”

Ian’s long steps were quick and forceful as he said, “Even if you’re obsessed with Philip’s kid, he’s someone else’s. If you want one so badly, we’ll make our own–together.”

Chloe felt like she’d just been struck by lightning. “Ian, drop it! There’s never, ever going to be anything

between us!”

Ian didn’t say a word. He just hauled Chloe onto the helicopter, resolute and unshakeable as ever.

Mitchell rushed over and leaned close, whispering to Ian, “Mr. Hamilton, cars from Hamilton Manor are coming in from both sides–they’re about to hit the main gate.”

Even though Mitchell kept his voice low, Chloe still caught every word.

When Ian forced her into the car, Patrick had parked his own vehicle out of sight at another intersection.

Patrick must’ve realized he couldn’t stop Ian himself, so he headed back to the Hamiltons for help.

“Ian, Edward is almost here! If you don’t want to face the Hamilton family discipline, you’d better let me go right now!” Chloe yelled, scrambling to buy herself a little time.

Chloe struggled with everything she had, desperately trying to win a few precious seconds for herself.

But all she got was Ian’s frigid command: “Shut the airport gates. No one is allowed in!”

When Chloe finally came to, it was already almost noon.

As she took in the bedroom around her, her mind went completely blank–like a bomb had gone off inside her head.

This was the private island where she and Ian had spent their honeymoon.

Chloe got out of bed barefoot, but the moment her feet hit the floor, the world started spinning. She quickly flopped back onto the mattress, needing a moment to steady herself.

She closed her eyes, and the whole scene of Ian taking her onto that helicopter played back inside her head.

She was furious, panicking, and her blood sugar totally tanked–all at once. Next thing she knew, she’d just passed out.

She sort of remembered Ian holding her tight, sobbing while she was out cold.

But even then, he just wouldn’t let her go. Not even off that helicopter.

Chloe checked herself for her phone, only to remember with a jolt that lan still had it.

She’d tried to give in and play nice, hoping it’d convince him to take her back home–but in the end, he still brought her here against her wishes.

When she heard the door open, Chloe slowly opened her eyes.

Ian stood there in black slacks and a white shirt, the hem untucked and collar carelessly undone, three buttons hanging open.

There was a deep weariness in his eyes, and he looked utterly exhausted–almost sickly.

Ian sat down on the edge of the bed, moving with unusual gentleness and care..

He sat by Chloe’s side, softly fixing her long hair. “Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

Chloe shoved his hand away and struggled to sit up.
