lan was rushed to the hospital.

Chloe made it home safely.

Patrick and Mia walked her to the door, then headed back.

In the Irvine family’s living room, Chloe was sitting on the couch, surrounded by her family as they made sure she was okay.

Chloe comforted her parents, saying, “Dad, Mom, he was just trying to pressure me into getting back together with him. He didn’t actually hurt me.”

Frank let out a sigh. “I always thought he was calm and steady, but I never imagined he’d turn out to be so unreliable.”

Arthur, who had a huge grudge against lan, chimed in with a sour tone, ‘Frank, you just didn’t see what he was really like. People who are too smart often have something off about them.”

Jill nodded in agreement. “All the other big families rely on siblings sticking together, but lan managed to take control of the Hamilton Group all on his own at such a young age. He outmaneuvered the board and went head–to–head with the toughest people in business. For someone so young to be at the top, he definitely isn’t your average guy. We’d better keep our distance from him in the future.

Chloe thought her mom was absolutely right..

Dealing with lan was always risky: you never knew when he’d outsmart you.

Chloe comforted everyorie, saying, “Seriously, don’t worry about it. I’ve made things clear with him, and he promised not to bother me anymore. We’ll both go our separate ways from now on and just get on with our own lives.”

Everyone finally relaxed after Chloe comforted them.

Jill stood up. “Chloe, go take a shower and get some rest. Your dad and I will make lunch, and we’ll have Arthur call you when it’s ready.”

Arthur gently nudged Chloe toward her room. “You haven’t been getting enough sleep these past few days. Go take a nap. I’ll wake you up when lunch is ready.”

Chloe reached out and ruffled Arthur’s freshly styled hair. “Mr. Logan, thanks for looking after my parents while I was gone

On the way home, Chloe heard from her parents what had happened.

While she was stuck on the island with Ian, Arthur had been staying over at the Irvine family’s place to keep her folks company.

He was so worried something might happen to Jill’s heart that he spent both nights sleeping on their couch, fully dressed, just in case.

Arthur swatted her hand away. “Seriously, stop touching my hair!

Chloe grinned. “I’ll ask Sophie to come over to our place some day. You better come keep me company, too.”

Seeing Arthur jumping around in fake outrage, Chloe just laughed and closed the door behind her.

No matter how bad her mood was, all it took was a nice hot shower, slipping into her favorite cartoon pajamas, and curling up in her own bed for Chloe to feel all her worries melt away.

She was pretty sure that after everything that happened, Ian finally got the message and would stop chasing after her for good.

With Ian out of the picture, she could finally take her time and live life on her own terms.

Chloe opened her phone, wanting to call Eric Jordan, but found it was completely dead and wouldn’t turn on.

She swung herself out of bed to look for her charger and nearly knocked over a small cardboard box on the shelf.

Chloe peeked inside the box and found it was full of things she used back in high school.

Her mom must’ve forgotten to toss it when they moved and just brought it over.

She idly shuffled through the box, and her eyes landed on a little clay figurine.

Chloe pulled the figurine out of the box and noticed a clear crack running down its clay body.

Her mind drifted back to that weekend at the night market.

She’d pestered Ian to come with her, and at a street corner, they spotted a stall selling handmade clay figurines.

She insisted the figurines looked best as a pair, so she made lan sculpt one in her likeness, while she made one to look like him.

lan called her childish, but still took a seat beside her anyway.

She tried to make a clay figurine in Ian’s likeness, while he just waited patiently next to her, absently scrolling through his phone.

She was all thumbs, and it took her over an hour just to get the little clay figure done.

Chloe looked down at the clay figurine in her hand. ‘Wow, this is so childish, she thought to herself.

With a plop, she just chucked it right into the trash bin.

The little clay guy was already cracked, and Chloe’s toss finished it off–it broke apart the second it landed. ‘Guess that settles it, Chloe thought, not even feeling bad about it.

Meanwhile, at the hospital.

By the time Patrick and Mia arrived, lan had just been taken into his hospital room.

The doctor let them know that even though lan was no longer in critical condition, his stomach was badly bleeding, so he’d have to stay in the hospital for treatment.

Inside the hospital room, Edward and lan’s parents stood in tense silence, their faces grim and shadowed with

Mitchell hovered anxiously outside the doorway, nerves shot–he just couldn’t bring himself to step inside.

Patrick reassured lan’s parents, saying, “Shane, lan’s out of danger now, so you two should head home and get some rest. I’ll stay here and look after him. If anything comes up, I’ll reach out right away”

Edward, who’d been quiet until now, spoke up in a serious tone. “Shane, you and your wife come back with me. There’s something important I need to discuss with you.”

Patrick caught the tense look on Edward’s face and spoke up, “Grandpa Edward, Uncle Shane, after all Ian’s been through, maybe you shouldn’t rush him into getting engaged to Margaret. Let him catch a break first.”

Mia hurried to back him up. “Patrick’s right. No engagement’s worth risking my brother’s health!”

Shane jabbed a finger at Mia. “Stay out of your brother’s business. All you need to do is show up and meet them tomorrow–no complaints, understood?”

Mia immediately hid behind Patrick, too scared to say another word.

After the Hamilton elders left, Patrick and Mia stood by Ian’s hospital bed.
