Chapter 59
Chloe shot Ian a look, pulling her arm free to leave.
Seeing this, lan grabbed her again, forcing her into a corner of the hallway.
His eyes were locked on her face, searching for any flicker of emotion.
“Chloe, we’re married,” he said, his voice tight. “What was all that you said to Andrea just now?”

Chloe stopped struggling. “You give Andrea all your love and trust, unconditionally. You even have a child together. You hurt my brother right in front of me for the woman you love. What kind of marriage is this?”
Ian’s grip softened, and he tried to take her hand. “Andrea is a kind person. The last thing she wants is to make enemies. She only approached you with good intentions, to smooth things over and make peace.”
Chloe let out a bitter laugh. “The wife and the mistress making peace? Ian, are you even listening to yourself?”
They stared at each other, and for a moment, Ian was silent.
“You’re
my
wife,” he finally said. “Andrea is in my past. I’ve seen the security footage from tonight, and there are witnesses. I wasn’t wrong about Carl.”
Chloe held back her tears, her gaze turning colder.
‘He checked the cameras and talked to witnesses after the fact,‘ she thought. ‘He stormed into the room, ignored my brother and me, and listened only to Andrea’s side of the story.
Seeing her silence, Ian tried to explain. “I’m responsible for Carl’s injury. I used too much force, and I’m sorry for that. But this has nothing to do with Andrea. Don’t take it out on her.”
Her eyes welled up. “With you protecting her like this, would I even dare?”
Their eyes met, and Ian’s expression faltered.
He looked down, changing the subject. “How’s Carl’s hand? I’ll come with you to check on him.”
His attitude was just another blow.
The image of her brother’s pained expression and injured wrist flashed through her mind, and her heart
ached.
Smack!
Suddenly, Chloe swung her hand.
The sharp crack of a slap echoed in the quiet hallway.
Ian turned his head to the side, looking at Chloe with disbelief and a flicker of anger in his eyes.

With her eyes red, Chloe spoke each word with chilling clarity, “lan, Carl has looked up to you since we were kids. He trusted you. And you hurt him like this for another woman. You don’t deserve to be his brother–in- law”
This time, when Chloe walked away, lan didn’t stop her.
Back home, Chloe found her brother pale with pain, and a wave of guilt washed over her.
She left his room, fighting back tears, and faced her parents. “Dad, Mom, this is all my fault.”
Jill couldn’t bear to see her children suffering and turned away to wipe her eyes.
Frank, looking defeated, patted his daughter’s shoulder. “Your brother is impulsive. Maybe a tough lesson is what he needed.”
Chloe retreated to her room, where the tears she had been holding back finally streamed down her face.
Sobbing, she pulled out her phone and sent a message to Mr. Reed.
If lan wouldn’t sign the divorce papers, she was ready to fight for it in court.
At the same time, lan had moved into his new penthouse at Blue Cove Residences.
He and Patrick Lewis stood on the open–air terrace, leaning against the railing as they each lit a cigarette.
When Patrick heard that lan had injured Carl, he gave him a thumbs–up. “Hurting your own brother–in–law. You’ve got some serious nerve, man. I’ll give you that.”
Ian’s expression darkened. “I didn’t hit him. He dislocated his wrist trying to break free from my grip.”
Patrick rolled his eyes. “Andrea knew Chloe misunderstood the situation, yet she showed up anyway. If I were Carl, I would have decked her too.”
lan didn’t see it that way. “Andrea went to Chloe to make peace, to convince her to come back to me. She didn’t have any bad intentions.”
After a slight pause, he added, “You know Carl has been spoiled rotten since he was a kid. He’s arrogant and fiercely protective. He’d even get into a fight with me, so of course he wouldn’t be polite to Andrea.”
Patrick stubbed out his cigarette, trying to reason with him. “Look, lan, the Irvines are all pride and no substance. Chloe is spoiled and dramatic. Besides her looks, she can’t hold a candle to Andrea. Just divorce her and let her get the hell out of your life.”
Ian turned to look at Patrick, his face now a thundercloud.
But Patrick wasn’t finished. “Andrea is a saint, a goddess, free of all earthly desires and bad thoughts. You get her and her son as a package deal. What are you waiting for?”
Ian leaned forward slightly, resting his forearms on the railing.
“Your reverse psychology won’t work on me,” he said flatly. “Chloe and I are not getting a divorce.”

Patrick decided the conversation was pointless. “Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. If you can get Chloe to come home with you for the holiday, then you can talk to me about not getting a divorce
After Patrick left, lan stood alone on the terrace for a long time.
He and Chloe had known each other for over twenty years, and she had never been disrespectful, not even as a joke.
Even when he hadn’t come home for a month because of Andrea, she had never laid a hand on him.
But tonight, she had slapped him.
Jan lightly touched the side of his face where she had hit him.
All he could see was the cold, determined look in her eyes as she stared at him.
Sleep was impossible. Jan paced around his new, empty home, not knowing what he was looking for or what he wanted.
His feet wouldn’t stop moving, and his mind wouldn’t quiet down.
The next day at noon, on Thanksgiving Day, Ian showed up at the Irvine house with gifts.
