Chapter 60
“Spend Thanksgiving with you? Like hell.”
Carl stormed out of his room, grabbing a small stool and lunging at Ian.
Chloe and her parents rushed to hold him back.
Chloe turned to Ian. “Just go. I’ll be at the manor tonight.”
As long as things with Ian were unresolved, her family would never know peace.
There were some things she needed to say to the Hamilton elders, face–to–face.
Seeing Chloe concede, Ian left to avoid further conflict.
After he was gone, the holiday spirit completely evaporated from the Irvine home.

As noon approached, Chloe saw the worried looks on her parents‘ faces but didn’t know how to comfort them.
That evening, Chloe went downstairs after a call from Ian.
The air conditioning in the black Bentley was blasting, and Chloe pulled her sleeves down as soon as she got
Ian leaned in. “Is it too cold in here?”
Chloe looked away, silent.
Ian turned to grab a thin blanket and wrapped it around her. Chloe tore it off in disgust.
Ian’s expression darkened. He draped the blanket over her again, and before she could remove it, he pulled her into his arms, holding her through the thin fabric.
Chloe struggled, her face cold. “Ian, let me go.”
He tightened his grip, looking directly into her eyes. “Chloe, what kind of married couple acts like this?”
Forget a physical relationship. Now, she couldn’t even stand his touch.
Chloe finally broke free from his embrace and threw the blanket off. “We were married for three years while your heart belonged to another woman. While we were still married, you brazenly kept that mother and son by your side, showering them with affection and trust. You let them provoke me endlessly. The fact that I haven’t completely lost it on you is a miracle of self–control.”
Ian stared at her profile, stunned. “Chloe, is that really how you see it?”
She turned to look out the window. “You said one thing right in Andrea’s hospital room.”
Ian frowned. “What was that?”

Chapter 60
“If you have nothing to say, then shut up, Chloe said flatly.
The oppressive atmosphere was suffocating.
They rode the rest of the way in silence.
As dusk settled, the car slowly pulled into the Hamilton Manor.
A servant opened the door, and Chloe stepped out.
Mia ran over excitedly. “Chloe, I was so worried you wouldn’t come.”

Miranda took Chloe’s hand affectionately and led her into the living room. “Chloe, Mom had the kitchen make your favorite soup. You have to eat more later.”
Ian followed behind them, his eyes flickering as he watched his mother and sister flank Chloe on their way to the dining room.
Chloe entered the dining room and greeted everyone politely.
No matter how much Ian had betrayed her, no matter that they were in the middle of a divorce, she wouldn’t forget her manners.
The table was laden with a lavish Thanksgiving dinner, but Chloe couldn’t stomach a single bite.
She had finally come home, hoping to spend a quiet holiday with her parents.
Instead, her brother’s hand was injured, and her parents were miserable.
Right now, they were probably sitting at home, their own Thanksgiving ruined, too worried about her to eat.
Miranda kept putting food on Chloe’s plate, and Chloe offered a mechanical ‘thank you‘ each time.
Ian observed her reactions.
He placed a small tureen in front of her, removed the lid, and checked the temperature. “It’s the mushroom soup you like. Mom had the kitchen make it specially for you.”
Chloe stared down at the soup.
An image of lan tenderly feeding Andrea in her hospital bed flashed through Chloe’s mind, and a wave of nausea washed over her.
Fighting the urge to be sick, she stood up. “Excuse me, I need to use the restroom.”
She left the dining room.
After Chloe was gone, Shane Hamilton spoke, his voice sharp with anger. “She comes back with that long face. She has no manners anymore.”
Miranda turned to her son. “Ian, be honest. What’s really going on between you and Chloe?”

Jan stood, his expression as calm as ever. “Dad, Mom, don’t worry. We’re fine.”
Edward snorted but said nothing.
Jan hesitated for a moment before leaving the dining room.

Once lan was gone, Mia dared to speak. “Edward, Dad, Mom… my brother gave Chloe some food, but she didn’t touch it.
“I also counted. He’s had seven glasses of wine and hasn’t eaten a thing.”
Edward rose from his chair, and Thomas, Thomas, quickly moved to support him.
When Chloe came out of the restroom, she saw everyone gathered in the living room.
She hesitated, then walked over to Edward. “Edward, Miranda, Shane… there’s something I need to say to you all.”
Jan’s sharp gaze fell on her. He walked over and grabbed her wrist. “Edward, Mom, Dad, Chloe and I have something to do. We’re leaving now.”
Chloe struggled to free her hand.
Remembering what had happened to Carl’s wrist, Ian was afraid of hurting her and immediately let go.
Chloe addressed Edward directly. “Edward, I’ve retained a lawyer to file for divorce.”
The color drained from everyone’s faces.
Shane shot his son a furious look, then turned on Chloe. “When the Irvine family went bankrupt, you wouldn’t be where you are today without Ian. If you want a divorce, you’ll leave with nothing. Don’t even think about taking a single penny from this family.”
Miranda sat on the sofa, sighing repeatedly.
Jan stepped forward and gripped Chloe’s shoulders, forcing her to look at him. “It’s Thanksgiving. Let’s let them get some rest. We can talk about this tomorrow.”
