A society matron sneered under her breath, "Figures — adopted kids and the adopted daughter can’t hold their own. Even now they’re scheming to push the Hill bloodline out of the Hill family."
"Speaking of ingrates, who’s more of an ingrate than you?"
Those two lines were neither loud nor soft, yet everyone heard them clearly.
Matt’s face went deathly pale; his snarling expression deepened the lines on his face by two folds.
Hannah’s throat tightened; she gritted her teeth to stop herself from throwing that matron out.
"Wait a minute..." someone suddenly exclaimed, frowning, "West Cliff? The Hill ancestral home and West Cliff are in totally different directions — how could Miss Clark have had an accident over there?"
In an instant, everyone’s eyes swung to Selina.
Selina replied slowly, "Then we should ask this supposedly loyal Hill driver why he brought me to West Cliff."
All eyes shifted from Selina to the driver.
The driver trembled, still protesting, "I— I didn’t, Miss. I never went to West Cliff. You’re not familiar with City N; I was just following the road—"
"Every Hill car has a GPS tracker. Run the check and you’ll see," Selina said, lifting her gaze coolly. "You wouldn’t dare not do that, would you?"
The driver’s eyes snapped wide and he looked to Hannah.
Hannah’s mind raced — this wasn’t supposed to unfold like this. She had assumed the driver would finish the job, make it look like a fatal crash, and the tracker would be damaged and untraceable.
But Selina was standing there unharmed, and that car...
"That vehicle has already been towed back by our people. Luckily, the tracking system is intact. I’ll check the GPS right now," Jack stepped forward and said, quickly putting a tablet on display. Everyone peered at the screen: it showed the Hills’ proprietary tracking interface.
On the tablet, the system simulated the car’s route, showing the full path it had taken.
"So it really went to West Cliff?!"
"Then why is the driver lying? Could he really have been planning to murder Miss Clark?"
"Hannah said the driver’s an old family retainer — he wouldn’t do something like that. Hmm... I guess the driver’s loyalty is to a Hill, but which Hill could it be..."
The driver’s face drained of color; he clenched his fists and desperately looked to Hannah for help.
Selina let out a light laugh. "Why are you looking at Mrs. Hill? Do you really think she can protect you now?"
"You planned to murder someone — do you know what that will cost you? Not just you; your whole family will be investigated from top to bottom."
Selina sounded detached as she continued, "After all, you and I have no grudge. Why would you try to take me to West Cliff and drive us over the cliff? If Logan hadn’t arrived when he did, we’d probably both be dead right now."
"I’ve never seen you before; I doubt you’ve seen me. Yet you’d be willing to risk your life to drag me to death with you — that makes no sense. So when the police are called, they’ll examine your bank accounts, look into your family, check who you’ve been meeting with. They’ll go through your relatives’ bank records and jobs, line by line."
"Then they’ll trace who bought you off—"
