Lauren paused, her expression turning serious as she looked at Edith. “Edith, all these traditions come from a place of deep love and well wishes for the bride. We just want you to be happy and secure in your new life. To your aunt and me, you’ve always been our precious girl–so precious, in fact, that we don’t care if it’s your second or third marriage. The only thing that matters to us is your happiness.”
After Lauren’s heartfelt lecture, Edith could only sigh and shrug her shoulders, her face drooping as she nodded. “Alright, alright, I get it,
Lauren.”
No sooner had she said this than a new idea popped into her head, chasing away her earlier gloom. “Hey, how about you come with me to dinner at the Hawksleys‘ tonight? Their chef makes the best sweet–and–sour ribs–you have to try them!”
Truth be told, Lauren hadn’t planned on going. She might be Edith’s cousin, but she had little connection to the Hawksley family Edith had married into. Still, not wanting to dampen Edith’s excitement, she considered for a moment before agreeing with a smile.

she barely knew him yet.
Letting out a sigh, Edith conceded, “Okay, fine. But can I at least go back to the hotel with you tonight?”
Lauren shook her head. Her little cousin was wonderful, but sometimes

Without hesitation, Lauren refused. “Edith, don’t even think about it.”
Soon, the two of them reached the airport’s underground parking garage. Lauren eyed the car parked in front of Edith, frowning in surprise. “Edith, are you sure this is your car?”
Edith just pulled out her keys, unlocked the doors, and the headlights flickered to life. “Of course! Get in.”
Lauren slid into the passenger seat, still a bit skeptical, and took a look around. The car alone cost a small fortune, but what shocked her more
was that the luxury upgrades inside were worth even more than the car
itself.
