Beckett received the written notice from Hawksley Group terminating their partnership with Pioneer Prime far sooner than he expected.
He couldn’t accept how drastically things had changed overnight.
Inside Pioneer Prime’s headquarters, Beckett paced the floor, his expression tight with anxiety and anger. Without hesitation, he called for his assistant and stormed toward the exit, determined to confront Hawksley Group directly.
His assistant, well aware of how vital this deal was to Pioneer Prime, hurried after him, trying to inject a dose of reality. “Mr. Vance, Mr. Hawksley won’t meet with us.”
It wasn’t just companies of their standing–even those much bigger often struggled to secure a meeting with Mr. Hawksley.
Beckett practically dragged his assistant into the car with him. “I don’t care. I’m demanding an explanation. Are they just going to jerk us around like this? They can’t just drop us on a whim.”
The car sped through the city, heading straight for the most coveted part of Northcrest–where Hawksley Global Headquarters dominated the skyline.
The building stood directly across from Northcrest Tower, the city’s most iconic skyscraper and its tallest. The real estate here was worth an astronomical sum; Hawksley’s headquarters marked the epicenter of Northcrest’s bustling business district.
But Beckett’s car hadn’t even reached the entrance before security stopped them.
Routine check. Even after Beckett showed his credentials, the guard shook his head with polite finality. “I’m sorry, sir. Without an invitation or an appointment, we can’t let you in.”
Frustrated, Beckett had no choice but to phone Justin’s assistant.

Chapter 92
“If you can’t give me a proper explanation about this project, I’m not leaving,” Beckett threatened.
He climbed out of the car and marched up to the building, glaring up at the highest floor. “I’ll wait right here until someone gives me answers!”
Justin’s assistant hesitated on the other end of the line. Normally, security would be instructed to escort persistent visitors like Beckett off the premises–it was standard procedure.
But this time, Hawksley Group had blindsided Pioneer Prime, and the assistant’s conscience prickled with guilt. After a moment’s thought, he called security and told them to let Beckett inside.
In the reception lounge, Beckett was offered a cup of hot tea–an attempt at hospitality that he misread entirely.
He assumed such courtesy meant they felt guilty about ditching Pioneer Prime on short notice.
Settling into his chair, Beckett pushed the cup aside. “I’m not here for tea. I’m here to see Mr. Hawksley.”
Justin’s assistant, having worked alongside his boss for years, carried himself with the same unflappable politeness. He didn’t take Beckett’s brusque gesture personally; a little temper was understandable under
the circumstances.
He offered a patient smile. “Mr. Vance, Mr. Hawksley is currently busy preparing for his wedding. He hasn’t been in the office lately, and he won’t be available for meetings. I’m sorry if you came hoping to see him.” Beckett blinked, caught off guard. “Mr. Hawksley is getting married? That’s news to me–there haven’t even been any rumors. Who’s the bride? Is it the Hart family’s daughter?”
He’d heard whispers about Yvonne Hart’s interest in Mr. Hawksley, but he’d never imagined things had moved so quickly. Mr. Hawksley was notoriously private; Beckett’s knowledge of him was all rumors and secondhand stories.
