Maxi was a bad influence on her, Islinda wondered for the umpteenth time how she managed to convince her into this. After signing up for the fight, the Fae had to wait her turn and that was how the both of them got upgraded to a front-seat view of the fight.
Islinda couldn’t help but stare at Maxi who watched the fight with unmatched enthusiasm while devouring her snacks. "Bumfry" was the name of the snacks and Islinda hoped to God it was a plant product and not derived from the bum of a Fae animal. As much as she ate everything, animal bum was another thing.
Exciting matches played out before her yet Islinda could not relax, not to talk of enjoying it. Most of the participants were very huge, even way more than Aldric, who was the strongest Fae she had seen and very muscular. Maxi was like a child compared to them and they would squeeze her like fresh bread.
Tension coiled in her belly and Islinda lost appetite for the little snack she had left. Her gaze returned to Maxi who cheered the current fighter and made remarks about his footwork. How could the Fae be this relaxed when she was full of nerves?
Islinda confirmed at that moment that the Fae was as mad as Aldric. Perhaps this was why Issac did not like to talk about her. If only they hadn’t snuck out of the castle. If Issac was here, he would have been able to stop her from making such a risky decision. But no, he wasn’t. Now, their girl’s night was going to end in disaster.
Hence, when her name was called, Islinda’s stomach dropped and she was filled with apprehension, unlike the Fae who stood to her feet, rubbing her sticky hands down her clothes. She was done devouring the Bumfry, and how she was able to move afterward, Islinda had no idea.
"Maxi...." Islinda attempted to convince her but the Fae ignored her and took off her coat and draped it on her shoulder.
She continued out of desperation, "You don’t have to do this, Maxi. I don’t care about the drinks. We can just go to the castle and drink all we want."
"You worry too much, kitty," Maxi said, cupping her cheeks and puckered it, laughing at the effect, "A cute Kitty."
Islinda glared at her, annoyed. This was serious and yet she took it jovially.
"This is not funny -"
"Didn’t I tell you to have trust in my ability?" Maxi said so seriously that there was a menacing aura around her. Do all Fae become scary when they are mad or was it specifically certain Faeries close to her? Islinda gulped.
Without warning, the darkness on her face vanished and Maxi smiled brightly at her, "Wait for me, kitty, I’ll make lots of money for us." She ruffled her hair on purpose with a pleased grin.
Islinda began to shout Maxi’s name, telling her to give up the fight, but the cheers of the thrilled Faeries drowned out her tiny voice. Neither could she make a move because was pressed by the excited Faeries on both sides. There was nothing she could do but watch the impending doom.
Maxi and her opponent faced off against each other, instead of the Fae cheering her on, the arena erupted into laughter instead and Islinda could not blame them. This was because Maxi looked like a child standing up to an adult and as a female, she did not look like she could do any danger at all.
"Beautiful female, why don’t you give up this fight? I don’t want to hurt you," Maxi’s opponent sounded merciful at first, only for him to add in the end, "You look like you would do a good job sucking my dick instead." The Fae delivered the line perfectly, and the crowd roared with laughter.
Islinda frowned, hating the way the opponent’s eyes roamed Maxi’s body and objectified her in front of the crowd who only encouraged him. However, Maxi in question did not even look affected, if anything she bounced on the balls of her feet, eager for a fight.
Islinda shook her head, she was crazy.
