Chapter 41 Vanished Without a Trace
Catherine was about to bring up which projects needed follow-up when a knock came at the
office door.
She turned and saw Caleb standing there. His expression was grave.
Catherine rose and walked over. “Is something wrong, Mr. Warren?”
Caleb turned without answering and led her straight into his office.
The moment she stepped in, she saw two uniformed police officers.
She understood at once. Michelle must’ve woken up and was ready to hold her accountable.
Catherine had expected nothing less.
Caleb looked at her with a trace of reproach. “Even if you and Ms. Stone have the worst feud imaginable, you shouldn’t have laid hands on her.”
He knew very well that Michelle was backed by Harry, someone their company couldn’t afford to provoke.
What Caleb feared most was Harry turning his wrath on the company, and yet Catherine still held in her hands a major project with Bell Group.
Hence, Caleb’s feelings toward her were a mix of resentment and fear.
Catherine’s tone was calm when she said, “Mr. Warren, if you’re worried I’ll implicate the
company, I’ll resign.”
Caleb was caught off guard. “That’s not what I meant. I’m just worried about you-”
She didn’t let him finish. She turned to the officers and uttered, “I’ll go with you.”
As Caleb watched her leave, he still couldn’t make sense of the grudge between her and
Michelle.
Catherine was taken into custody.
“Do you know the consequences of your actions? A prison sentence of no less than three years and up to ten years! You’re lucky the victim wasn’t gravely injured!” One of the officers
slammed his hand against the table.
Catherine looked up but said nothing.
After the phone call that day, she had been waiting for news from Adam. Two days had already

passed, and the outcome was close at hand.

The officers kept trying to get her to talk, but she replied coolly, “My lawyer will speak to you.
Beyond that, Catherine wouldn’t utter a word.
Right then, the door opened, and both officers were called out.
Adam entered.
The moment Catherine saw him, her expression sharpened. “Mr. Mayo, what did you find?”
Adam shook his head. “Those men disappeared right after you were hospitalized. I traced their last known location, but there was nothing.”
Her face darkened. “Disappeared?”
“I’m sorry, Ms. Quinn. I lack competence.” Adam lowered his head.
Catherine rubbed her brow. Without evidence, the matter was troublesome. “This isn’t on you. Michelle had taken precautions well beforehand.”
If Michelle had planned to harm her, she would surely have left herself a way out.
Catherine should’ve sent Adam to track those four earlier.
Adam then assured her, “Don’t worry, Ms. Quinn. I’ll find a way to get you out. You’ll be fine.’
She gave a faint nod. “Look into Michelle.”
Since the kidnappers had vanished without a trace, Michelle was the only direction left to
pursue.
Catherine leaned back in her chair and slowly closed her eyes.
The fluorescent light overhead was harsh. She had been in the interrogation room too long
and had lost all sense of time.
Adam didn’t linger. He stood and left.
Soon, Catherine was alone again.
