Chapter 53 They Seem Like a Couple

“Sure.” Catherine agreed without a second thought.

Jeremy’s voice was calm and deliberate. “Won’t I eat you into poverty?”

Catherine set the vase down on the coffee table and turned to him. “Of course not. It’s just dinner. I can afford that.”

After all, Jeremy had helped her recover four million dollars. She definitely owed him this

meal.

“Alright.” Jeremy waited until Catherine was ready, then drove her to Kingswell Dining.

Together, they strolled through the lavish lobby and ascended the sweeping spiral staircase to the second floor. They took a glass elevator all the way up to the 102nd floor.

Since the dinner had been a last-minute decision, Jeremy and Catherine couldn’t reserve a private room and had to dine in the main hall on the 102nd floor.

Catherine chose a window seat.

The Kingswell Dining sat between the Crescent Bay District and Langshire Bay, offering sweeping views of both the bustling commercial streets on one side and the glittering river lights on the other.

Catherine picked up the elegant card-like menu, glanced through it, and handed it to Jeremy.

He didn’t take it. Instead, he looked at her with a gentle smile. “You’re the host. I’ll let you

decide.”

Catherine took the menu back and ordered a few of the restaurant’s signature dishes along

with some desserts. She then asked the waiter to open a bottle of red wine.

With a playful laugh, she said to Jeremy, “Tonight, we’ll have to make do with juice instead of wine.”

“That’s perfectly fine.” Jeremy watched her every move, the corners of his mouth curving into the faintest smile. In fact, he had been craving a glass of red.

Jeremy was surprised that Catherine had anticipated it. She was remarkably thoughtful.

A woman like her should belong to Jeremy. He took a sip of red wine, his gaze lingering on her with a quiet possessiveness.

Catherine, meanwhile, was absorbed in the view outside the window, blissfully unaware of his

thoughts. A wave of relief and contentment washed over her.

Though the past days had been exhausting, she felt deeply fulfilled.

When the meal was over and Catherine rose from her seat, Jeremy instinctively gathered her handbag and jacket. Together, they stepped into the elevator.

It stopped at the sixth floor.

Catherine was updating Jeremy on the progress of her laboratory. The facility had been built, but she still needed to recruit staff.

Just as she mentioned this, the elevator doors slid open.

Harry’s voice rang out immediately. “I’m paying you to work, not to stand around doing nothing! If this happens again, you can all pack your bags and leave!”

He stepped into the elevator, looked up, and froze. The two people inside silenced his anger before he could speak.

Catherine wore a simple, form-fitting dress that showed off her slender, smooth arms. With her willowy figure, it was hard to believe she was pregnant.

Jeremy carried a small woman’s jacket over his arm and held a sapphire -blue handbag in his hand.

They stood so near each other that their closeness was unmistakable.

Harry ended his call and lowered his phone, a smirk tugging at his lips. “What a coincidence.”

It had been ages since Harry had last seen Catherine after their divorce.

He never imagined he would run into her again, especially with her standing so close next to Jeremy, looking as though they were married.

Jeremy stepped forward, placing himself slightly in front of Catherine.

“It’s just a coincidence,” he said without the slightest courtesy. “We would’ve come down later if we’d known you were here.”

His protective, almost brazen stance unsettled Harry, especially the sharp, guarded look in his eyes as if Harry were some intruder.

Harry entered the elevator, pressed the button for the ground floor, and replied evenly, “My apologies. I’m sorry to trouble you both by sharing the same space.”

The doors slid shut.
