My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 118

At that moment, Isabella Austin’s voice rang out, feigning concern. “Ms. Blair, did you come to the hospital alone? Isn’t anyone with you? Do you need help? You look rather…”

She trailed off, an insincere smile flickering on her lips. “I’ve just finished my own check-up, so I have some time if you need a hand.”

Emily Blair didn’t believe for a second that Isabella genuinely wanted to help. It was obvious—Isabella didn’t even move a step closer. She just wanted to flaunt how caring Andrew Lane was to her, and at the same time, make a point of how alone Emily seemed.

Without responding, Emily pressed her lips together and slid her left hand off the IV stand. Ignoring the needle still embedded in the back of her hand, she used both hands to tie her sneakers—tighter than she ever had in her life, even counting her past one.

There was no way she’d let herself lose to Andrew Lane and Isabella Austin. For a moment, she forgot she was still sick and pushed herself up from the bench.

Instantly, the world spun and her vision whited out. She braced herself against the wall, struggling to stay on her feet.

Before she could even open her eyes, a gentle woman’s voice came from beside her. “Hey, are you alright? You look really pale.” There was a sudden gasp. “Oh, your IV needle slipped out! You’re bleeding—hold on, I’ll get a doctor.”

Emily managed to open her eyes. Blood was trickling from a fresh red line on the back of her hand, where the needle had come loose. The drops of crimson stood out starkly against her pale, almost colorless skin.

She stared at it, but felt surprisingly calm. “Thank you,” she murmured. “Could you help me find a nurse?”

The woman glanced between Emily and, across the hallway, Andrew Lane and Isabella Austin. When her eyes landed on Andrew, she paused for a beat, clearly taken aback by his looks. Then she nodded firmly. “Just wait here—I’ll be right back.”

Emily pinched the IV tube to stop any more fluid from leaking out, then set the stand outside the restroom. Not sparing so much as a glance at Andrew or Isabella, she walked in to compose herself.
