My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 141

Elizabeth Wilson was fuming, so much so that she nearly jumped to her feet to argue.

But Emily Blair gently held her back. “Let’s just be grateful we got the room back. No need to stir up more trouble.”

Elizabeth's face flushed with anger. “So we’re just supposed to let them twist the truth?”

Emily lowered her voice. “You know exactly what kind of person Andrew Lane is. Do you really think we can win against him?”

At that, Elizabeth seemed to deflate like a punctured balloon, all her fight draining away.

Later that afternoon, while Emily was out in the hallway filling her kettle, Sophia Clark strutted past with her nose in the air, shooting Emily a smug, challenging look.

Sophia snickered. “Enjoy sharing that crowded ward. I’m moving my dad to a private VIP suite—no more cramming in with the masses. I couldn’t bear to let my dad stay with people like you.”

Emily ignored her, quietly filling the kettle, but Sophia kept on, her words dripping with malice.

“Aren’t you curious who set it up for me?”

“It was Andrew Lane—the same Andrew Lane you’re always pining after but can never have. Isabella just mentioned it to him, and he made it happen in a heartbeat.”

“Did you really think my dad would end up in the hallway too? Sorry to disappoint, but not only does he have a better room, he’s got a private nurse, and the bill goes straight to Andrew Lane. We may be in the same hospital, but we’re not in the same league.”

Sophia threw her head back and cackled, sounding every bit the petty villain.

Emily finished filling the kettle, pausing a moment before snapping the lid on. As she turned, a splash of scalding water spilled from the spout, landing right on Sophia’s exposed arm.

Sophia shrieked, her face contorted in pain. “Ah!”

Emily offered a half-smile, half-shrug. “Oops. Didn’t see you there.”

Sophia jabbed an accusing finger at her, her expression twisted with rage. “You did that on purpose!”

Emily’s tone was light, almost innocent. “Honestly, I didn’t even notice you.”

And with that, she turned and walked away, not sparing another glance for the drama queen.

Down the hospital corridor, Elizabeth hesitated before speaking. “I checked. You really did wire a hundred grand into my grandmother’s account. I’ll treat it as a loan—I promise I’ll pay you back.”
