My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 162

“Ms. George, why won’t you let them in?”

Arianna George’s gentle smile stayed on her lips, but the warmth in her eyes faded almost entirely.

She stepped back to the doorway, resting her palm on the frame. “I’ve always preferred a quiet life. Why don’t you both head home? There’s no need to linger here or make a scene.”

Emily Blair immediately replied, “I’m sorry, we didn’t mean any offense. I just… I really need your help.”

Arianna wasn’t an unkind person, but these two strangers showing up at her door and asking for a favor without so much as an introduction struck her as both rude and presumptuous.

Yet, seeing the urgent look in Emily’s eyes, she found herself a little intrigued.

“Well, go on. What is it?”

A spark of hope lit up Emily’s face, and she did her best to steady herself. “Ms. George, it’s about the Starlight Piano Competition—”

But Arianna’s expression shifted instantly. Her brows knit together in a scowl, the last trace of warmth vanishing from her face.

“Starlight? Are you both competitors? I’m not about to give you any special treatment, if that’s what you’re here for.”

A knot tightened in Emily’s chest. “No, that’s not what I meant—”

Arianna let out a sharp, cold laugh. “You’re not the first competitors to come knocking. I’ve already said it a hundred times—there’s absolutely no way I’ll help anyone cheat their way in, so don’t bother coming here with backdoor schemes.”

“I won’t see you out!”

Creak—slam!

Arianna shut the door in their faces, leaving them standing in the garden.

Emily’s frustration showed as she raised a hand and thumped her forehead.

Elizabeth Wilson stepped closer, her face just as grim. “And to think you even know Sophia Clark and her friends… This is turning into a mess.”

From the very start, Sophia Clark had found it amusing to watch Emily Blair pleading with Arianna George. If Arianna hadn’t been there, Sophia would’ve openly mocked her.

Sophia and Isabella had been best friends for years—more than that, Isabella was her role model: beautiful, talented, from a privileged background. She was the picture of independence, running her own business, adored by fans. Even if she cared for Andrew Lane, she would never let it stop her from moving forward.

She was that rare sort of woman who truly had it all—someone everyone wanted to protect and admire.
