My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 183

Emily Blair’s voice sliced through the darkness, sharp and accusatory. “You killed me! I’m here to take you with me!”

The room was dim and silent, the “ghost” with wild, tangled hair and a chilling, piercing voice. A cold draft swept through, making the whole scene feel straight out of a horror movie.

Even someone as composed as Emily Blair would have felt her skin crawl in a place like this—so it was no wonder Amelia Lane, never one to handle pressure, was terrified out of her mind. She could barely string together a sentence, her words shaky and broken.

“No! No, it wasn’t me!”

Amelia’s voice was thick with tears. She curled up on the floor, arms wrapped tightly around her head, her body trembling uncontrollably. She didn’t dare look up.

“It wasn’t me, I swear! I didn’t drug anyone—I just told someone to pretend to have a stomach ache, that’s all. You’ve got the wrong person, I promise… it wasn’t me! Please, don’t come after me!”

She scrambled backwards, her limbs flailing in panic. “It’s Emily Blair, it has to be her—their food must’ve been bad! Go after her, she’s the one who did this to you, it’s got to be her!”

Behind the curtain of dark hair, Emily Blair’s lips curled into a mocking smile.

She spoke again, her voice soft and low. “So, that girl really acted on your instructions?”

Amelia wailed, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I’ll never do anything like this again, just go find someone else…”

Suddenly, the lights in the lounge blazed on. Amelia blinked, noticing the glow beneath her, and froze.

A beat later, she jerked her head up.

Emily Blair calmly pushed her hair behind her ear, her features striking under the harsh white light. She smiled—serene, dazzling, her eyes bright and clear.

“Surprised to see me, Amelia?”

Amelia’s stunned expression morphed into a mess of red and purple, twisting with anger and humiliation. She bared her teeth. “Emily Blair, it was you all along?!”

“But—my brother told me to come here! How could it be you?!”

Emily laughed softly. “Not what you expected, huh?”

Looking down at Amelia like she was something unpleasant stuck to her shoe, Emily smiled. “I should thank you, really. You’re such a coward you confessed before I even had to try.”

Amelia’s face flickered with shame as she replayed the humiliating scene in her mind—her groveling, her desperate pleas for mercy from Emily, of all people.

She was mortified.
