Andrew Lane let out a short, cold laugh, his eyes sharp as ice and his voice low and indifferent. “You still haven’t taken down that post. There’s no way I’m letting you leave.”
So, it was all because of that post she’d made online.
Well, that explained everything.
A hint of irony flickered in Emily Blair’s gaze. For a moment, she’d thought she was important enough for Andrew Lane to come all this way just for her. But of course, it was all about Isabella Austin. Everything was always about Isabella, and about protecting her precious feelings.
With a cool lift of her lashes, Emily said mockingly, “So Mr. Lane does understand how damaging a post like that can be. Funny, when Isabella Austin put up her post about me, I didn’t see you rushing to defend me. Or is it that you care so much more for Isabella Austin that you can’t see the rest of us suffering?”
Andrew Lane’s eyes darkened as he stared at her. Suddenly, he asked, “Suffering? What suffering?”
He sounded like a man determined to get answers, the kind who wouldn’t let anything slide. He pressed again: “What exactly are you suffering for?”
Emily almost laughed out loud.
She could see right through him—playing dumb, pretending not to know, trying to cover things up by asking obvious questions. She had no intention of wasting more words, and certainly not of letting Andrew Lane know where her deepest wounds lay.
Her tone was icy. “You’ve got the wrong idea, Mr. Lane. Instead of pushing me to delete the post, maybe you should just get your people to contact the website and have it removed from the back end. That’d be a lot faster.”
Andrew Lane listened, then said flatly, “Are you done? If you are, then let’s go.”
Stubborn as ever.
Emily could barely keep herself from chucking her travel bag right at his face.
Her patience long gone, she said, “Like I told you, I’m not deleting the post. And I’m not going anywhere with you.”
Andrew just replied, “Alright.”
Then, unexpectedly, he let go of her arm.
For a split second, Emily was stunned, thinking maybe he’d finally come to his senses and decided to let her go.
