My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 58

Emily Blair straightened her back, hands clasped loosely in front of her waist. Her smile was faint, barely touching her eyes.

Only when she stood did everyone get a clear look at her evening dress.

It couldn’t compare to the one Isabella Austin wore in terms of designer labels or price, but on Emily, it was dazzling enough—more than enough to hold its own.

Some people say clothes make the person.

But with Emily Blair, it was clear: the person made the clothes.

Even Amelia Lane, who was always looking for a chance to put Emily down, found herself at a rare loss for words when she took in Emily’s entire look. Her voice caught in her throat.

This was the backstage dressing room for the school’s anniversary gala, crowded with performers getting their makeup done.

But Isabella Austin was already finished, and it was obvious she wasn’t here for makeup. Amelia Lane, who wasn’t performing tonight, had no reason to be here either.

Their purpose was all too obvious.

They were here to corner her.

Emily looked at Amelia, her lips curled in a half-smile. “You know, Amelia, I think you’d fit right in at 133 Peace Road.”

The address sounded familiar to Amelia. She frowned. “And what’s at that address?”

Emily was already taller than Amelia, and with her three-inch heels, she towered over her by nearly a head. She didn’t bother to look down, just met Amelia’s gaze with cool indifference.

“Since you’re asking so earnestly,” Emily said, her voice sweet as honey, “I’ll be honest. That’s the city’s psychiatric hospital. Lots of your kind there.”

Emily’s gaze shifted to Andrew Lane.
